The car has been out for a year and there are like 2 posts with aftermarket wheels, one was a dealership that put them on a car they were selling.

When you are a member of a BMW, Lexus or Audi site those enthusiasts get to work quick. I think it is because the new TLX attracts a different, more conservative crowd. But the car definitely needs some help from OEM Like nice spoked concave wheels and lowered a smidge. Also remove those terrible chrom reflectors on the rear bumper or paint them, but they are aweful

I am buying one in about 3 months when the release the 2016s, I sure hope the make a type S or A spec.

Speaking for myself, I like the wheels as is, hate low profile vehicles, and like the no exhaust look with the chrome around the lights instead. Therefore, I am not inclined to modify the car and will use that money elsewhere. I love her just the way she is

Depends on your definition of "modifying" some members have dropped and put aftermarket wheels. Others do a lot more subtle mods like tint and painting the grill. Aftermarket performance parts are scarce right now. It took years for the 3G to get turbo/ tuning. 4G just recently got set up with K tuner. It's all relative.

As an aside, as stated in your other thread- you are gonna be disappointed if you think there will be a S or ASPEC in 2016. Just my opinion.

Maybe:
- you are looking in the wrong place on the forum
- the car really does not need much to be done to it
- people buy it for what it is and not what it could be
- the car attracts a conservative audience

But this should not stop you from applying all the mods that will make it the car you want it to be.

here are some things to consider;

the target market for the TLX isnt the modded crowd.
does any one know what the TLX is?
it's expensive at $35-40K, then look back at the target market....

Think many of the people interesting in modifying a car have moved on to more suitable cars. Even this forum is very thin on both everyday posters & modifiers compared to prior versions of the car.

If traffic is light on a fan forum its less likely a vendor will develop products for it.

Well, this is all a matter of opinion. Those of us that have the TLX must have been a little attracted to it in order to buy it and some of us like to either leave it almost stock, add a small amount of modification or go all in and make it as unique as wanted. As it was said earlier, there aren't a lot of options yet to mod the car since it's still pretty new so that may have something to do with it as well. I was much more pleased with the car after I saw it in person and after adding the body kit, spoiler and my new summer wheels I'm more than satisfied with the way the car looks. For me right now the car does everything I wanted it to do when I got it and maybe in the future I'll do more as mods are made available.

If you do get a '16 then there may be more aftermarket kits available and you can go wild and blaze a trail for the rest of us conservatives to use as a beacon.

Ditto for me. If it had the RLX's Krell sound system and Head Up Display, then my happiness would be taken to a new level.

I would mod but just don't have the money to spend and time to mod my TLX right now. And not enough aftermarket parts yet. I'll give it a few more months and see what's out there.

If it were lowered an inch on some 20x9.5 rear and 20x9 front wheels with 255/35/20 rear and 245/35/20 front tires. I think this would make it look pretty good, however I am unsure of the wheel tire fitment as I have not other sizes offsets to compare it to.

Well... true and not true.

I know early on with the 3G TL, there was limited aftermarket support. I think mostly it was comptech as the only company that came out with some mods (exhaust, sway bar, short shifter). Guys mostly did Aspec stuff and wheels and some suspension work. 4-5 years after the car was out then you had other companies jumping on different mods to make the car perform better or "look" better. Of course technology also changed with it. LED lighting became more popular and a bit more affordable. The used market also started making the car more affordable to a younger audience.

It's kind of a split demographic. Some are fine with the car bone stock others want to personalize it. I know when I bought my TL way back when... my brother was already modding it in his head.

Personally, if I got a TLX, the first thing I would do, is wheels and suspension and tint. I'm not a huge fan of the current wheel designs on the Acura line up. It just screams too much Honda at me.

I would have bought a more expensive car rather than spend the $$$ to modify my TLX. My TLX is fine just the way it is!

Maybe that is because it comes from the Honda "think tank", and would be really bad if they put BMW or MB style wheels on it. I am happy with my OEM 18" and they look quite unique to me.

Attend a 1 or 1/2 mile airport run sometime & you will see a lot of very expensive cars with a lot of modifications done to them.










Modifying is not just an inexpensive car thing.

I installed the lowering springs and still debating on wheels since everybody is going for the Vossen wheels. I don't like the factory body kit, just waiting on a duraflex kit or something more flush to the body. I just order the spoiler. I hated the gap between the fenders and the factory wheels, however I hate the way the lowering susp. rides, I'm hopping that once I install 20" feels better.

Most people use wrong sized wheels and tires, or just do ugly stuff to their cars which make other people think that all mods are distasteful as they have only seen people Abbott their cars rather than tastefully upgrade them.

I'll start when H&R comes out with their spring for the AWD. Just called them and said they're working on it but no ETA. Just going to be putting on springs (no more coils, to harsh for me).

I don't know which coilovers you have been using but every set I have ever used, on any car, have ridden better than stock suspension. (Ten, KW, H&R) Those are all great brands to consider if they make a version for your car.

I honestly just feel there isn't enough parts in the market for this car as its still too new. I love to make cars just classy and can't wait to get some 20's myself with the RS-R springs! Just got all the windows tinted!

Key to coil overs is getting the correct spring rate for the car. My Cobra is 2100lbs & has a very comfortable ride with coil overs but will still pull over 1g when cornering. Main thing is if the springs are to hard or soft you can swap them out. Company I deal with has a coil swap program

Make sure to get the right size and offset along with tires that aren't stretched like Rhu Paul's face. Make them as wide and flush as possible with a squared tire, staggered would be cool. Like some 20x10 and 20x9 with 275/30 and 245/35 tires.

As for the springs, spend a few extra hundred and et coil overs, they rode waaaay better, handle better, and you set them precisely where you want them. As you can tell, I'm fussy.

I'm not expecting Honda to put German looking wheels on their vehicles. At least try and differentiate the wheel design for Acura vs their Honda cousins. Love the wheels on the new NSX...but not so much on the rest of the line up. I'm glad you like your TLX out of the box.

Everyone is an entitled to an opinion. And the tastes of one person may not align with another. If I'm gonna mod a car it needs to serve a function. I certainly am not one to slam a car or stretch tires or any of the more "visual" aesthetic based mods. I have some mods on my TL...you wouldn't know it by looking at it which is fine by me.

i agree not enough parts in the market for these cars, i just wish acura makes oem window visors like honda did to the accord, & also a full mask (for those who drives in the freeway alot, like myself)

I think the I4 wheels look Honda-esque, but the V6 wheels to me seem pretty clean and classy for stock and don't recall seeing anything like them on an Accord.

Then 20s will make it ride stiffer, the best way to make the ride better would be to get rid of the springs and get coilovers. Don't get the cheap coilovers as they are crap, get Tein, H&R or RSR coilovers. I have owned both Tein and H&R for my previous Acuras and they both ride better than the factory suspension as they absorb bumps better and control the car better in turns, the car sticks to the ground better. I also had Tein Htech spring on my old TSX and removed them after a week because they rode stiff, so I got the Tein coilovers and life was good again.

18s are just plain too small for a car this size. It should have OEM 19s and 20s as a sport wheel upgrade. That's what Audi and BMW do anyhow but they are a little less conservative. Life is too short to be boring 😄

P. S. I agree with you. No one is modding their TLX. I like the couple responses "im modding! I got wheels and tint!" yeah. With responses like that you wont see any modding any time soon.

I hear you, I just meant the design of the wheels themselves. Would like bigger and better tires. The Bridgestones on the V6 are pretty weak. I may upgrade after I wear these out.
