All the 'non-car forum' people I know love the TLX.
My friend recently got a Black I4 TLX and is getting a lot of props from people at our University. This girl who owns a Lexus GS 350 said that she 'loves the design'. Even my Mom gave it props when we went back to visit during the weekend. My Mom have only been driving Lexus or Mercedes simply due to the Brand name and openly admitted the TLX looks better to her than her current
E Class. I think this is interesting because I have began to notice more and more the very small 'forum community' of car buyers and their opinions isn't really the same as the people who actually splash out the money to buy the cars.
Forum car people often allow their emotions/bias speak for them.
I'm actually thinking about getting the TLX V6 instead of the upcoming
RC350 from Lexus. To me the TLXV6 got enough power, good performance, and a sharp look. Acura still got enough brand power and prestige for me to be proud of the car I'm driving. I am also pretty certain Acura's brand image will rise because of the TLX.
People seeing a bunch of MDXs and TLXS on the road is a good thing.
A expensive luxury SUV carrying the Acura name and a 32,000$+ sedan carrying the Acura name is great for the brand if it's seen everywhere.

One gripe about that post. I'm a late comer to the forums and I have "splashed the cash for 1G through the 4G. I will also do the same for the TLX. Just not right now. As I have done every Acura I've owned, I wait until the mid model refresh. Usually, the things that folks gripe about is addressed then if its feasible to Acura. Some forum folks may take your post as a slam.

I don't see it as a slam, more as an informed opinion. We, the enthusiast, do look at the TLX differently than the general public. Overall I think it's an extremely nice car packed with a lot of value. I'm rooting for it to sell well, because if it does then maybe we enthusiast will get a TLX-S to cater to our needs as well.

"Forum car people often allow their emotions/bias speak for them."
Huh?
You know why and when people join car forums? Its when their ride starts making funny noises! Hang on, wait! Those non-forum people you mentioned will show up here soon. Wait for it...

Yea I agree it's true that forum people allow their emotions speak for them. But isn't that true for most non-forum/enthusiasts too? You don't need to be an "expert" to have an emotional opinion about aesthetics. Some people who are into art can relate and they really look closely at the design, though they may know little else about the car.
There are a few pragmatic types that only care about the practicality/value of the appliance....er.. car they are buying. They don't care much about the aesthetics, everything is a pickup truck as far as they are concerned, lol. So no emotion for that subset.
I have found that nearly ANY brand new redesigned car will get props everywhere it stops when it first hits the streets. It doesn't necessarily mean that these onlookers would buy it. They are just excited to see it. Sometimes it is a surprise to them because they didn't know the new model has been released. Other times it's excitement because people like seeing the new thing on the block in the flesh. For example, the new S-class was a complete head turner in the spring, it was a rare sight. Just a few short months later and around here in the NYC area it is EVERYWHERE. It's already blended in and nobody pays attention. The other reason people get wowed is when a car is very rare or an expensive exotic, of course, but that is a different story of course.
From non-enthusiasts I know, I have showed them pics and their reaction was of indifference. However if we all saw one in the flesh we would all be excited a bit. It's a natural reaction to seeing something new. But I don't think any of us would actually buy it.
At the end of the day, don't go based on this. Who cares who likes what and what's seen where and the illusion of prestige. YOU like it? Buy it.

The previous TL design really turned me off with the over sized grill, back end looked like it was smiling at you, and the larger looking size/weight compared to other vehicles in its class. This styling is a little more conservative than the last model; but, with modern touches and aggressive looking areas (especially the front with the new headlights+fogs). I think the TLX will equal or even exceed MDX sales in a few years.
This would be my only choice when my TSX and/or RDX is ready to be replaced down the road.
