I'm not sure what you said here. Are you saying the new Genesis is better or worse than the TLX?

My guess is that he thinks most anything is better than the TLX. The TLX definitely rubbed him the wrong way.

It's not a matter or being better or worse....the Genesis belong to a clearly higher segment than the TLX...it's like comparing a Buick Regal to a 5 Series.

Not true...I just think the TLX is a good premium midsize sedan competing well with a fully loaded Fusion, Optima, Buick Regal, etc....or even the A4 or the BMW 320i.....is clearly not competing with the Genesis

Leave Hyundai live his own fantasy.Hyundai has been good choosing his competition.
The Equs compete with 7 series, A8 , S class .Pure fantasy.
The Genesis competition is 5 series , A6s , E class .So funny.
Acura has to mess with Lincoln , Buick , Optima , Taurus ???. Hyundai has built a perfect world.

How can anyone not buy a Hyundai? There really is no other choice, right?

TLX, junk! Acura must die!

I don't think Hyundai is a bad car, at all. I just know what it's like working with Hyundai in SK. The Koreans, like the Chinese, are very good at cloning things. I wish I would have taken pictures of the cars there. Hard to tell the difference from the real thing.. like the Rolex clones they sell too. After seeing all of that, it's hard for me to buy one... but that is just me.

[QUOTE=CheeseyPoofs McNut;15164162]Question - have you ever driven a Kia Optima?[/QUOTE

Please Motor Trend, Road & Track, Car & Driver, Automobile magazine, please
can you compare A 2.4 TLX VS a 2.4 Kia Optima ?.
And please dont compare the nav system , or bluetooth, leather etc.
Please take them to the track, to the Hills , ok, that will never happen.

So, where does Motor Trend say the TLX sucks so much, like you do? Have YOU driven the TLX on hills and track? No? Didn't think so

I understand you don't like the TLX and I am not trying to change your opinion, but please, state facts instead of assumptions when you trash the TLX.

This kind of discussion happened about 30 years ago ( Of course I read from magazines) when Toyota/Honda brought their first generations over the US. People thought they were junks, just like Hyundai today. This is fact.

The 2015 Genesis is in a different class vs. 2014 Acura TLX based on specs. This is fact.

Now my personal opinion: the Genesis, specially the V8, is a class above the TLX. Brand prestige is definitely arguable but Hyundai has only tried 10 years (since the 1st Genesis). Acura has tried about 25 years and is still lost.

Actually I've driven a rental Optima while in Chicago for a couple days on business.

I can state my opinion which is that the Optima is a nice looking car but not as nice as my Accord and not nearly as nice as my new TLX. The interior of the Optima doesn't come close to the TLX and while it drives okay I certainly wouldn't choose it over a new Accord which I wouldn't choose over a new TLX.

The Optima competes (fairly well) with Accord/Camry/Altima - not the TLX. Not sure if Saturno is trying to prove a point by comparing the TLX to the Optima to let us know he doesn't feel the Genesis compares to the TLX or not.

Anyways - it's silly to include the Optima in the discussion IMO - based on having driven one for a few days.

I like the Genesis sedan, rear looks a lot like the Accord to me, not that sporty but attractive. I'm disappointed with the TLX, but I've never bought a sedan so what do I know. I tried hard to find something distinctive about it, the front has the expected sleek beak and new tiny lights, but the rear is forgettable and the side is unappealing, esp the pass window shape.
Acura TL-TLX went from edgy to hedgy.

I have driven the Genesis on multiple occasions and it is a very nice car. It has a totally different feel than the TLX for a variety of reasons, size, engine, suspension just to name a few. For the price of the Genesis I would suggest a CPO Mercedes E class or BMW 5 since the Genesis sort of falls in that category. If you intend on purchasing a Genesis you should expect to keep it for a long time since the depreciation factor is very high. Accordingly if you are set on a Genesis I would strongly consider a pre owned.

The TLX is very different from the Genesis and it comes down to what makes you happy behind the wheel on the road. I am bias toward the TLX since I bought one and thought for us the best choice. The TLX for me has the right combination of refinement, comfort and performance but as everyone knows it really is a personal choice.

Question - have you ever driven a Kia Optima?
I drove more than once an Optima turbo and it is a very nice car in its segment indeed.
Interiors are nice too..and you have to consider that it is rather old now.

I'm not "thrashing" the TLX..ok I admit I'm not in love with the look of the car.....rather you guys try to put it in a segment where does not exactly belong.

The TLX is a "semi premium" or entry level luxury (I would rather say semi-luxury) midsize sedan...the closest car I can think of it's the Buick Regal...

You can trash talk the Hyundai badge as much as you want but, talking about reality vs, fantasy, the Genesis is one or even two class above the TLX.

People bashing it should take the effort of at least sitting into the car and then maybe reality will smack them in the face...

...
This 'What segment is the TLX in?" is more than a bit subjective. Acura and other sources claim it competes with X,Y,Z, you, think it competes with M,N,O for some reason.

At this point, I will just say, what you think the TLX with competes is merely your opinion.

You say you don't trash the car, yet it seems that you do by saying that it competes with an even lesser car than the 4G did. Arguably, many see the TLX (V6) is more of a car than the 4G TL .

Or a lease since you get to walk away in 36-39 months. I like the Genesis and leasing is the only way I would touch one.

Getting a pre-owned is tough because the 2015 (latest generation) just came out, and that's the Genesis to get.

Keith may have the right idea in leasing, and they're already discounting them quite a bit.

Saw a Genesis commercial for the 2015? on TV last night & IMHO they are really upping their game. Think they are no more than a generation away from being accepted as a player in the upscale market.

Car in the add had a number of high end features.

They have a lot of them on the lots, from what I have seen on websites, so yes, you can get a great deal, I am sure.

Surprised nobody has brought the Kia Cadenza into this conversation.

I saw one last night on the road as we were going out to our favorite Thai place for dinner. It looks very subdued to say the least.

I do own a back issues colection of car magazine since 1984. Ive read tons of road test and comparison test that include Legend , Vigor, Tl , Cl , Nsx.
1992 Legend comparison include Eclass, 5Series, A6 , Lexus ES.
1996 RL same vehicles.
2005 RL Lexus GS, Infinti M45, E class, A6.
1998 TL compared to 3 series, infiniti G, Lexus IS300, A4, C class.
2003 TL same vehicles.
What the confusion about competition ??.

Here's what I ponder. Who decides the criteria for what competes with what?

Is it cost?
Is it size?
Is it motor size (HP)?
Is it MPG?

IMO, the individual decides. Not a magazine or a car forum.

I just don't know anymore

We will see the TLX in a car mag competition very soon - I can assure you! The car mags can't do it in almost real-time like the websites can. I'm hoping the Nov issue of Car & Driver will have something. Like you I'm interested in seeing the double top secret zero to sixty times!

Open your eyes. When Acura have a lesser product there are test everywere.
Ive read magazines since 1983 and then the internet. Its a same patern and
it amaze how people ignore that.
If a magazine rank a Acura in first place it will be a bomb. if this happen is
over Lincoln , Buick , Taurus etc. Who will care ???. People will keep buying
3 series, C class and thinking about a Hyundai.

Yes I drove a Kia Optima. Drove ok. Then I nose dragged the build and laughed my ass off! It was very obvious it's built on the cheap. They don't even hide the fact they don't even paint the inside of the hood, fully. Paint dies off after going around the edges of the hood. Now if they didn't paint the entire hood the same, what other corners have been cut that can't be seen?
This thread is getting silly, the Car is at least $20k more than a fully loaded SH-AWD model, so compare it with the appropriate vehicles already!

Not quite sure what you mean. If you mean the Genesis, a fully loaded V6AWD Ultimate is about $52.5K and you can probably negotiate $4+K off of that.

The TLS V6 SH-AWD is about $45.6 and evidently not much discount available (maybe $1K?).

So say $49K for Genesis and $45K for TLX. Doesn't look like $20K difference. Maybe I'm missing something?

I'm in Canada $47,500 for the top line v6 AWD TLX vs $64,100 for the Genesis.

I don't know how the car makers price vehicles between U.S. And Canada, but Acura seems to have given us a break this time

Wow, I had no idea about Canadian prices. However, the top Genesis in Canada is probably the V8. The V6 may be a better comparison.

In any case, here in US the difference is not as great as one would think.

I'm still surprised about the Canadian prices. Guess we should always mention what currency we're using.
