The new Active EDFC.

Well Tein has came out with a new ACTIVE EDFC that automatically adjust the ride stiffness according to speed + G-FORCE

here is the promo video

seems pretty cool

I been wanting to get these since they introduced it a couple of months ago. The other great part is WAYYY less wires to run. Basically wireless from the controller unit to the motor driver units. And the cost is about the same. This will be on my TO DO list in a couple months.

I thought about getting this instead of the standard EDFC controller but a few things determined me from getting it:

A) Maybe superstition, but I rationalized to myself that the Active EDFC is more likely to fail. From what I remember seeing, the wireless antennas and actual controller need a power source, so it's not completely wireless.

B) For what I use my car (DD), it's excessive, seems like something that would be useful in a rally race or track.

C) Suspension is a wear item. If you had the Active controller activated to adjust for accelerating, braking, turning, etc I would imagine it wearing the coil dampening much faster than coils that have dampening adjusted less frequently.

D) It's more expensive than convention EDFC controller, I would only get the Active EDFc for "look at me" factor.

Anything wireless will increase the chance of interference and malfunction, as well as reliability and troubleshooting issues some time down the road.

Wired system is more robust, and more resistance to jamming and interferences.

I agree with all your points. But I want to add a few things to them. Active/adaptive suspension has been around for a long time and has been on many different makes and models. I would imagine it will wear a lot faster w/ auto mode but you can switch to manual mode and select up to 10 presets according to the driving situation. Harder or stiffer for highway rides and softer for riding around town. One thing I did notice is that it does not dampen side to side transition. Only accelerating and decelerating. But I still think it's a nice, convenient feature to have for those that like to toss their 4Gs around and open it up on occassions. 6MT owners would love this IMO.

Troubleshooting this kit is actually a lot easier than a wired kit for the simple fact you are eliminating most of the wires. 4 total driver motor units and the controller unit. It is one of the 5 as opposed to tracing the wire(s) back to find a break or tear. It's more complex and can get messy but also fewer issues. Wired will always be more robust and reliable than wireless. People prefer wireless because of convenience i.e. cellphones, tablets, laptops, etc. You want reliablity, stick to a wired setup. So there are advantages and disadvantages to both.

I thought I noticed it increasing the dampening as the g forces went up (in turn). Okay, not necessarily changing dampening levels between sides, but increasing both front and back while in turn, and lowering when coming out of turn. Or did I just think it was doing it?
