Alignment Question

Can you adjust camber or caster on the TL?

I recently had my car ailgned and the shop said they can only adjust toe..but not camber or caster.

my car's toe was all out of whack after my spring install..whcih they correted..and overall my car drives great, but there is still a slight pull to the right..

the guy said that because they can't adjust camber/caster they couldnt' make the alingment perfect and I wasn't sure if that is true or BS.

I assume you know what camber and caster are...which makes me wonder why would anyone want to "adjust" either.

Just for clarification, I do realize there are performance parameters associated with them, especially camber, but if all you want to do is restore factory settings, adjustable camber or caster should not be necessary.

One thing I know for sure...many cars today have a fixed caster setting that cannot be adjusted. A common trick amongst shady mechanics is to sell the unwary customer an expensive caster adjustment kit to replace the OEM hardware.

As always, opinions will vary, and I'm sure someone will opine that caster adjustment is critical (like those sorry bolts holding the brake rotors to the hub, which some claim are necessary to keep the rotors from wobbling). As for myself, I found one mechanic that does a wonderful job of aligning my cars, and the cars stay aligned for years.

He tells me the caster alignment kits are snake oil. If your vehicle's caster is off, and there is no adjustment, something else has gone wrong big time, not regular wear...

make sure TOE is set to 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how low did you drop it?
if you dropped it more than an inch and a half, the only way to adjust camber would be to get a camber kit.

if your running purely stock, then yes an alignment should last a year or two.. but if your lowered like i am and have aftermarket suspension parts then alignment will be needed rougly about every 4-6 months.

Toe has limited adjustment. No stock camber adjustment. Question is: Did they provide you with a printout showing current numbers vs. factory recommended range? That is key in determining whether you need to purchase an aftermarket kit or not.

My apologies, did not realize you dropped the car.
Now that the geometry is defferent, yes I would agree caster adjustment is a must.

Heal-toe has parts for some of your issues:

The folks at CostCo are correct, it is not adjustable...but I would not take my car to CostCo. If you are not lowering the car or driving like an Italian (me), you don't really need to worry about this.

The Discount Tire near my house doesn't even do alignments.

Since you haven't posted your specs, here is mine from December 2012:
