What fluid to use in the Transfer Case?

I've seen a couple of different editorials on this, and it seems that people settle for an 80w-90 gear oil, API GL5. The dude at the parts department was no help, obviously. He just said they have a drum of it and don't sell it.

If I search for Hypoid Gear Oil, I get a few interesting things, like this stuff:

Amazon.com: Sta-Lube SL24239 API/GL-4 Multi-Purpose Hypoid Gear Oil - 1 gal: Automotive Amazon.com: Sta-Lube SL24239 API/GL-4 Multi-Purpose Hypoid Gear Oil - 1 gal: Automotive

What all have you used?

Gear Oil; SAE 90 GL5. I used Mobil 1 Synthetic 75w-90 available at any auto part. Uses less than one quart. Use new seal washers. Must jack up car.

That is an awesome chart in the oil consumption thread! I couldn't find reference to that fluid anywhere. A search for transfer fluid always brought to the mdx forums and they were using the auto parts store OTS stuff, which never satisfies me in specialty applications like this one.

Well now you know! I've been having trouble finding out some basic information about our cars so I've been making threads to capture the information.

Redline makes a synthetic gear oil that matches the Acura specified viscosity: 75w-85
Website: Red Line Synthetic Oil - Gear Oil for Differentials - 75W85 GL-5 Gear Oil

I think I shall use this next time instead of the Mobile 1 which is 75w-90.

Service writers don't know what fluids to use, they're not the ones who use it. Parts people are normally who you would ask, but like OP said, parts people are typically useless

Was it difficult to change the it? Judging from using only less than a quart, it doesn't sound like it will be difficult.
Do we have any DIY for it??

There are 2 plugs on the t-case, one on bottom, one mid way up the front. remove lower plug and drain, reinstall plug. remove upper plug and fill with fluid until runs out of hole. reinstall plug. done.

on the transfer case, you have 2 of the 94109-2000 - 20mm washers.
