4G Seat Issue -- maybe.

Loving the car but have one small issue.
I did post this initially in problems area but I want a lot of people to see this and get feedback if possible. Can you guys feel the lumbar part of your seat if its turned all the way down ? I have this feeling in my lower back at all times. It's subtle, but noticeable, and the longer I drive the more I notice.

If I crank the lumbar all the way up and I run my hand over the leather where the lumbar is supposed to be I can feel a pretty pronounced point. I have had 3 TL's and I have an MDX and I have never felt anything like this in any of them. Is that just the way the 4G seats are ?
I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row prior to going to dealership. I am also open to recommendations on a service dept in lehigh valley PA area. I have Lehigh Valley Acura and Clinton Acura in range. I've been to both before, and was very impressed with Clinton Acura a month ago when I took my MDX there, however I have heard for whatever reason they just got rid of their entire service dept and all their sales staff. Stuff like that always makes me nervous. Not sure on Lehigh Valley Acura, its been years, I didn't like them on my last visit a few years ago.

Yes mine is that same. I'm not a fan of it at all. I suppose I have learned to live with it.

Hmm, that's disturbing if that is the way its supposed to be. Anyone else ?

Can't say... I hardly use the lumbar support. I like to sink into my seat.

Same here. But that's my point, even when I turn the lumbar support completely off, there is still a little ridge where the lumbar support is that digs into my back. None of my other Acura's have that issue.

I bought a 2009 TL a month ago. Same problem with the lumbar support. Sticks out and is too firm even when fully deflated. The other one I test drove, a 2010, was the same way. Must be the design. Curious to hear if there is a fix for it.

I think there's something wrong with the seat. No way it is supposed to be like this otherwise 100 guys would respond. I have an MDX with lumbar and that feels the way lumbar support should. There when you need/want it/ invisible when you dont. When you don't want to use the lumbar support, you cant feel anything in the seat at all. I've also test driven a few 4G TL's and I didn't notice this in those. Should be all under warranty( it BETTER be), so I'm not overly concerned. Love the car anyway.

I got same issue. I don't use the lumbar much but the seat is not comfy anymore, feels like the foam-soft part is gone?

Press on the lumbar cushion while deflating. I hate the ridge and that's how I got it to disappear, however I may have broken the control. Now I can hold down deflate and it'll continue to deflate, then start inflating!!!! I have to let go of the deflate button and then press it again to get it to deflate.

I've also leaned the back part of the seat a bit more and it's completely resolved it for me. I wish we could get 22 way seats like in my 760.

Hmm. I don't want to break the lumbar support. I'm going to bring it in to the dealer for them to replace/fix. Long as it doesn't cost me anything I don't care. I just got in my MDX the other day. That Lumbar is actually comfortable. A nice change up on long trips . I am sure this ridge that's there isn't by design.

Well, it does not feel this bad on the early months of my car. I have the 2014 and coming to one year this May and it feels like there is no more soft part aside from the side bolster?

Im surely going to complain this on my next change oil.

Update. I took the car to the dealer. They see that the motor works, therefore cant find anything that they could send in for warranty work because he said he could potentially replace the lumbar and it may feel exactly the same.
I wish more people would feedback to this thread. Because its not always easy to go to a car dealership and ask them if you can sit in their used TL's if you have no intention of buying. I don't know if ALL TL's are like this, or just a few.
So, I'm not sure what I'm doing with it. Probably put like a little towel or something on my lower back. Which is absurd, but it is what it is. I'd love for the dealer to fix it, but I'm still not 100% sure if this isn't the way its supposed to feel. Which sucks if it is. I still love the car, but this constant lumbar thing sucks. At least this dealer didn't charge me anything, another dealer wanted 107.00 just to look at it.

OK, I will be pursuing this directly with Acura. I understand the dealers are limited here in what they can do, Acura has no such limitation.

OK. see my other post. The issues is actually with the SEAM in my case, not the lumbar mechanism. Although the lumbar mechanism makes whatever is in the lining of the seam protrude more.

I want to update this post as well for anyone who had the same issue.
The dealer replaced the seat cushion inside my seat and now its all good ! This was all done under warranty. Apparently the person who had my car before must have been a very heavy-set individual as a lot of the padding in the seat was mushed down causing the metal bar and clips that run along the seams in the seat cover protrude more than they should. The dealer showed me the cushion that WAS in my drivers seat and it was pretty mushed looking and parts of the side bolsters were ripping away from the main cushion. I'm not sure how heavy you have to be to do this but it seems the 4G TL was not made for very large people. The seat feels great now !

Thanks for the update SilverJ, The foam must be really cheap these days. My 06TL seats are still like new. I ordered the back cushion from Acura and it was only $110.00 and they want $300.00 to install. I thought about installing it myself but I'm kind of worried about the air bag on the left side. Does anybody know if I disconnect the negative battery cable and unplug the bag would I get an air bag alarm when reinstalled. As far as removing and replacing the skin, that's no problem. I've done that with my sons 05 G35 seats (bad reclining motor) Acura did say extended warranty would not cover it.

Thanks SilverJ on your update. Do you have the part number that Acura ordered on your seat back cushion? I was wondering whether they did an update to it? How long did it take the shop to install it? I am glad you got it done under warranty...

Mine's the same way. All other parts of the seat still look new so it kind of sucks. When I inflate/deflate it feels like a plastic milk jug expanding. It doesn't really bother me as I almost always keep it inflated but I do worry that later on it will bust on me.

Slightly OT, my arm rest leather is warping. Anyone know if it's easy to replace?

arm rest on the door or center console? If the center console the foam underneath is going bad and can be replaced by a shop for $40ish

On the center console. The foam is definitely squished by now, I don't really mind that however it's the warped leather that bothers me. I don't think it's fixable, might just need reupholstered. Or just buy a whole new armrest.
