has anyone noticed the shift from 1st to 2nd has a long hesitation. i have changed gas.. this just started maybe it is me. wanted to here some input

 

sometimes, my car doesnt switch from 2nd to 3rd as soon as it should... theres been about 1/2 a dozen times, when im going 40mph in 2nd gear while in normal D mode... eventually it slipped into 3rd gear...

i would say... a 5-10 second delay

 

yeah i just notice it as well.. where is that forum that the person puts up for all of us to read about recalls and things of that nature.
i went to jones beach field 4 no one was there.. waited for a bit

 

Every morning when I'm driving out, there is a little 'knock' as the car goes from 1st to 2nd gear. This only happens once. I usually let the car sit for a minute or two before driving out and am very gentle on the throttle for the first few minutes. Maybe it's a Honda thing because I noticed the same 'knock' with the Odyssey and the Accord.

This also happens to me when the car isn't fully warmed up or when I'm on a hill.

 

I've noticed that too in mine. One time I paddle shifted up to 3rd and it stayed there. I wonder why the computer kept it on 2nd and kept the revs high.

 

If you're going up or down a hill it's supposed to shift later than usual. Maybe the car thinks its on a hill? I also notice if you brake while going down a hill it will usually downshift, sometimes this is undesirable and it's annoying.

 

I flushed out the Z1 ATF at 1000 miles and put in approximately 8.5 quarts of Royal Purple Max ATF and that exact problem the OP said is completely gone. Shifts like butter now. RP Max ATF FTMFW.

 

put royal purple in the fluid in the case should be fine... it is long life.. explain why changing the fluid would work..

 

It has a purer base made out of polyalphaolefins and polyolesters. Royal Purple has a higher viscosity index and uses more friction modifiers. Royal Purple also has higher viscosity at 100C. All the above leads to a longer drain interval and at the same time improves shift quality. Less deposits due to a completely synthetic base stock which also dissipates heat better and is thicker at higher temps leads to better shifting.

Honda Z1 ATF is one of the worst transmission fluids period and it shows time and time again with failed transmissions and 3rd to 4th gear grind.
