Timing Belt

I have a 2009 TL with 101,000 miles. Do I really need to replace the timing belt just because of miles. I've heard it's more about how ole the belt is than mileage. Would love some advice! Thanks!

I would say yes, change it. Do you have a estimated cost.

Timing belts should be replaced after certain amount of time or mileage, whichever comes first. Youve already hit the mileage so replace it soon.

Just think, if it fails and it eventually will, a failure destroys your engine. Since you don't know when it will fail, the change interval keeps you from "statistically" pushing the limit.
It isn't worth the risk, not even kind of!

Depending on how fast the car is traveling when the timing belt snaps, the damage can range from a couple of belt valve stems all the way to broken piston arms poking out through the expensive engine block.

The car is holding up great...it's mostly highway miles. I've gotten quotes for around $1200. Everyone's on the same page....better now, than have it go and do more damage.

Thanks for all the feedback...will schedule an appt. now

has your car asked for the TB to be changed? just change it when it flashes the MID code with an A or B with the "4" to indicate TB service. this can flash somewhere around the 105k mi mark give or take 3k mi.

$1200 is not unreasonable for a dealer price.

it's not like when your car reaches 105k mi the TB snaps. just follow your MID and you'll be fine.

Yeah get that belt changed ASAP. The recommended interval is 105,000miles, and though I've seen other Hondas that were fine up to 150,000miles (due to the driver not being informed), it is definitely a bad idea to go past the recommended interval.

$1200 seem like a reasonable price. When I had the timing belt and the water pump changed for my parents' Odyssey, it cost $1000.

Timing belt, water pump, new sparkplugs, check valve lash, replace engine seals as needed, clean EGR, replace serpentine belt, flush cooling system, change oil, change trans fulid, change differential fluid.

100k maintenance. Religious on Honda.

You go 120k on that belt, it's gonna snap - and you'll be lucky not to stick a valve and be out big bucks.

My Honda mechanic friend does this work on the side, it's a flat $700 to have it all done, parts included. Likely similar offers in your area.
