Tighten Fuel Cap

I filled up my new-to-me 2011 TL yesterday for the first time and got a "Tighten Fuel Cap" message after starting the vehicle. I immediately got out, removed the cap, and tightened it again but the message didn't go away. I drove it for about 10 miles, shut the engine off, took the cap off, tightened it again, started the engine and the warning was still there. Car sat overnight, warning still present in the morning. Removed cap, tightened it again, drove off, and the light finally went off after five minutes or so. I understand there is a TSB for this on the 2012 TL (11-012), but I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this on a 2011 or earlier model. I turned the cap until it clicked several times so I don't know why this happened to begin with. I thought I bought an Acura, not a Hyundai.

BTW, can someone provide a link to TSB 11-012? I'm curious exactly what the cause and remedy is. Someone posted a link on this site but I cannot access the file.

I was able to access the TSB via NHTSA.gov. The ECM misinterprets the purge volume and thinks the cap is loose. There's a software update to remedy it. Again, this is for the 2012 only apparently. I'm a bit skeptical though. I may replace the gas cap just to be sure it isn't actually the issue.

I have had this issue for months on my 2012 TL. I remember telling my dealer about it when I got my oil changed but they said it was due to fumes not escaping and causing it to detect a leak or some BS. They didnt say there was a TSB or maybe they didnt know, but i will be bringing it up again my next visit. Thanks for the info

How can you tell if the dealership service department is lying?
Anybody know this one?
Let's all say it together; "Their mouth is moving"

Just wondering about TSB's. Will the dealer fix it for free?

A new purge valve is ~$85. Am I better of just replacing it or paying more than that for them to update the software per the TSB?

Thanks!

Generally a TSB will be fixed out of warranty, but sometimes it helps to just be really nice too.

I get this message from time to time, randomly. I always tighten my fuel cap past the 3 clicks it specifies whenever I refuel, but the message still pops up randomly...sucks because my car is 2014 and I thought the TSB above only applied to models up to 2012.....blah.

I was getting code P145C and the Tighten Fuel Cap message. I did not end up taking it to the dealership for the TSB. Instead I found the Purge Valve part #36162-RMX-A01 new on eBay for $30 shipped(from China).

It was a simple 2 bolt swap and it fixed my issue.
Very glad to have this resolved for $30.

I ordered this part from Acura (36162-RMX-A01). It is an official part not from eBay.
