Fuel Cap Check Message ?

So it was about 43 degrees here on the weekend in Florida (which is cold), I had already driven the car about 30 miles to a show, when I came out and started the car, I got the Check Fuel Cap error message. I took off the cap and tightened it back on, and no change. On Sunday morning, same thing, so I adjusted the cap again. Still the message remained. This morning, the message is gone. Now, should I be worried that it will appear for no reason again? Was this a fluke? I know Honda models, and even older Acura's were known for this problem. I have about 45 days left on a Certified Warranty purchase. Anyone else have this message, and it has never come back? Thanks!

May just need a new cap (or just need to clean the seal on yours).

The dealer can test it to ensure it is maintaining pressure.

This message displayed once for me in 8 years of ownership of my RDX. May have just been a fluke. If it doesn't come back, you're probably fine.

Over in 3G TL, this issue is very common and the culprit is the Evap canister purge valve. Not sure how prevalent it is in the RDX but may be something to think about

I've gotten this before too, maybe 3-5 times in the last 2.5 years. I usually just take it off, tighten it back up and it goes away.
I wanna say that it's happened at the start of winter when we get a sharp drop in temp to -10 or so, but memory is foggy today.

Thanks everyone for your comments. The message has not come back, so maybe I just didn't have it tight enough. I usually only click the gas cap once since it says to "Turn until Click". I figured like pushing an elevator button multiple times, once it is lit, just a waste to keep pushing it. No matter, I will turn to two clicks then!

I usually keep turning it for another 2-3 clicks. Don't know if it makes a difference but I've done that on all 3 of my Acuras and never get the fuel cap message.

I too got this message several times last fall. Sometimes out of the blue, sometimes a day after getting gas. No matter what I did, the message kept coming back, so I mentioned it when I brought it in for service and they found the cap needed replacing.

I have had it on my Ody and just removed and retightened it and the message went away within a day or two. I have a 3 gen TL and it's been on for a week and can't get it to go away. I guess I'll buy a new cap.

On the 3rd gen TL, it's not a gas cap issue , it's a Purge control solenoid failure:https://acurazine.com/forums/third-g...essage-915682/

I got the "Tighten Fuel Cap" a few random times when I first got my 2010. I put up with it for 2 years then finally replaced the Gas Cap with another Acura RDX Gas Cap.

Upon examination, Acura definitely redesigned the RDX Gas Cap since 2010.

Had the the new cap for about 3 years and no error code since.
