Need help solving engine problem

hey guys its been awhile but I'm back

so today i turned my car on for the first time in 4 days in the freezing cold and as soon as i started it i could hear something wrong. so after i got home i decided to check it out and i believe it sounds like something is wrong with the fan belt but I'm not sure. i have posted a link to a youtube video trying to let you guys hear what is going on and possibly tell me what you think is wrong, hopefully you can hear clearly. going to end up taking it to Acura this week anyway probably but trying to get an idea first

thanks!

Other than some very noisy valves, I don't hear anything wrong with it. Just your typical J engine. Check your oil

How many miles do you have on it? and yeah, I would try to add some oil first and see if it's making the same noise or if it lessens.

I can bearly hear my 09 running. Im not sure that is normal. Oil change is not going to fix that. Oil does not wear out. It DOES sound like value chatter. I would have the dealer check that out.

Wow, really...oil DOES "wear out", ESPECIALLY SYNTHETIC, it BREAKS DOWN. If that engine's heads were built with less than tighter tolerances, the oil will "burn off" and will gradually lose oil and will lead to valve chatter and issues with hydrolic tensioners. This is why I asked about mileage, if it's under 100k...I would HIGHLY recommend taking it to the dealer for some sort of compensation. If it's higher mileage...its just the nature of the beast, seals wear down and oil is consumed...hense, oil changes SOONER & more frequent.

Traditionally on J engines, the exhaust valves tend to tighten up and the intake vales tend to loosen up, thus the noise you hear. I am talking about the valve lashes that loosen or tighten. Easier said than done to adjust those lashes back to spec... your valves will quiet down but your back will hurt for weeks! There are 24 of them that need checking and adjusting.

One more item to look for, is around the valve covers. Maybe you are leaking oil from the rubber gaskets at the base of these valve covers. Wipe off the dirt from that area and see in a day or two if you have oil deposits, especially on the rear one that doesn't get too much cold air and gets super hot sometimes (try not to burn your hands!). Maybe the excessive noise is because those rubber gaskets are not doing well!

The other thing I was thinking about and sorry if I didn't add them in one shot... a friend who also owns a '10 TL here, accidentally filled up with 87 octanes and the engine was really loud. Well he didn't, his wife did. After two fill ups with 94 octanes from Shell (the non-ethanol one), his engine got back to ultra quiet mode. Maybe its the gasoline, so maybe filling up with high octanes from Shell will fix this noise.

Yea, because thats a great idea. How about have him CHECK the level of the oil BEFORE just add some to see if it makes the same noise.

It's IMPLIED to check oil level first...I'm sorry, but if you're IGNORANT enough to just add oil/fluids to your vehicle all willy-nilly BEFORE checking the levels...then don't ask advice on the boards and just take it into the dealership because you don't need to be working on a vehicle or attempting to service your vehicle.
