I have 2009 TL and as I was pulling into the parking lot yesterday the car started shaking (almost felt like the car was choking) and the check engine light turned on. I waited a minute and then turned the car off to see if the problem resolves itself but unfortunately the car did not start again. Now apart from the CEL, there is a check emission system warning on my dash.
I have 67320K miles on my car and I had purchased it as certified pre owned. My bumper to warranty expired last year but the powertrain warranty is valid for another year.
Do you think this will be covered by the powertrain warranty or the emission warranty if it is still valid?
I am taking it to the dealer tomorrow and will update you guys on what they have to say.

 

I believe emissions stuff is covered for 8yrs/80K miles so it should be covered. It could be a failing catalyst or a bad sensor.

It's difficult to explain but when I turn the keys clockwise from the "ignition on (ll)" position to the "start (lll)" position, the car tries to start itself even after I have let go off the keys until until I move the keys counter clockwise back to position l.
Also the cabin was filled with the smell of gasoline just before and during this problem happened.
