Has anybody installed the Takeda intake on a 3.7? If so, how difficult was it do you feel professional installation is required?

Thanks!

I recommend going through the thread and reading up.

I believe page 6 had a link to the manual.

Professional install is definitely not required.

You come up to Boston for work? That makes two of us.

(Posting this only because I thought I was insane to do this...)

Quick question--is the dyno there capable of testing an AWD car?

YES. I ran my car there last year, great group of guys. I highly recommend stopping by, I definitely would as long as I don't have to work.

Cool.

CleanCL, you've have a UR pulley installed on your car, right? Was that you? If so, thoughts on its affect on performance?

I'm a noob at this, but I was wondering, does the cone filters such as this one on the takeda intake do as good as a job as the stock drop in filters? It just seems like it will be exposed to much more debris since it is pretty much not covered by anything. Thoughts?

No, the intake will get dirty at the same speed as your stock filter would.

I see. Good to know.

As for this intake itself, wouldn't it be better in performance if it was a CAI? Since SRI's seem to be just taking in hot air from the engine bay itself..I mean, if you were to live in a cold climate state, I'm sure this is okay, but for us living in California and desert states, I wouldn't think that sucking in hot air all the time would be that beneficial.

SRI is safer in wet states where you don't have to worry about driving into a puddle and destroying your engine.

Also, the Intake is pointed directly into the stock air vent which grabs air from under the hood so it's not all hot.

Now...as far as I know I haven't seen any CAIs around for the 09, I would love to see if they make a difference on the dyno.

Is this available for other AZ members I'll be at the Queens meet that day, I wouldn't mind stopping by for a quick dyno run.

That's a good point. Maybe I will go for this SRI. But I read this about our RLs: "Tuned intake is provided by a two-piece, dual-stage intake manifold. This serves to boost torque across the full operating range of the engine. The volume of the manifold's plenum is tuned to resonance together with the length of the inlet passages to amplify intake pressure waves thereby assisting charge, air filling of each cylinder."

It seems pretty advanced to me already...or at least that's how it sounds to me. But I love the engine sound from the SRI or CAI.

Maybe I'll wait to see if they come out with a CAI for the 4th gen TL because here in socal, it's pretty darn warm most of the year, hardly any showers.

I think the more the merrier, will give us a chance to see if the Dyno lives up to the hype

I'm sure whatever it is that they write...it's basically getting air to the engine, the more the merrier.

And the sound is worth it alone!

I used to hate how quite my RL was at full throttle...now people jump out of the way exactly when I want them to, eheh

Haha, that's the kind of effect I want too. Decisions decisions...I'm more leaning towards a CAI because it provides more low end power, as opposed to a SRI that produces more peak power. But I do like the sound of the SRI..hmm.

I got the CAI first but...it wasn't very good as it lacked a sensor hole...went with the only other option.

I have read through this thread 2x now and just want to be sure. Now that you guys have a month or two under your belts. Is the general consensus out there that there is no highway drone and the only time you hear it is if you get on it. Also now that you have had several tanks of fuel is the fuel mileage really up? and if so, by how much.

My commute is 90 miles per day round trip with 85% at freeway speeds which here where I live is 70mph legal. I am in the car for over two hours a day and do not want to be brain dead at the end of each drive from engine drone.

Thanks in advance and I am over getting one of these as soon as possible.

Blackura... any mileage gain to be had by also doing the spacer as well? Or is it strictly for performance.

Hello!

I had the intake installed 5 weeks ago and I racked up to 1 500 miles with it.. Sounds level are about the same as stock UNLESS you accelerate. You'll notice a much more profound growl. Also, the intake can be heard mostly above 2 750 RPM and it becomes a real monster at 4750 RPM (VTEC).

As far as mileage goes, I cannot give a final answer to this one, since I change my tires 3 weeks ago and going to snow tires is detrimental to mileage. I can tell you my honest opinion though: mileage has improved by around 5-7 % in town (stop + go traffic with 0-35 mph speeds) and a solid 6-8% on highways (basically non stop 65-80 mph for hours).

So Sound level up when accelerating, almost the same as stock when cruising which is fun and good;
Gas mileage up by a noticeable margin which is a good thing;
HP/Torque: Hard to evaluate since 10-20hp/lb will hardly be noticeable unless you become "in tune" with your car.

My 2 CDN cents!
-YetiTL

I'm eager to see the dynos results to lay to rest the alleged power gains.

^^Yeti... thank you so much for your fast and honest reply. That is exactly the kind of information I am looking for. Real world driving experience after having had it on for a while.

Pretty much a no brainer. Will order it today. Just trying to figure out whether I also need to do the spacer or not as I am not looking for more raw power but rather mileage. If it will help in the mileage dept then I will go with the spacer as well. I have modded every vehicle I have owned for power, with only the last one done for mileage which also came with a significant power gain, so I am well aware of the trade off ie: hard to keep the foot out of it when you have the power!!!!

Thanks to the usual suspects for being test subjects for the rest of us here

My pleasure!

For next spring, I'll surely add the Spacers (TB and IM) and the UR pulley. I'm a little on the fence for the pulley as I don't want to have any problems with my warranty. The TB and IM spacers seems more "troublefree" than the pulley. So my final set-up will look like:

Takeda Intake/ TB+IM spacers/ lightweight wheels/ UR pulley (maybe). I'm eager to get it on a dyno and on a racetrack for a few 0-60 and 1/4 mile!

Have a great day!
