With a stock converter you will not get anywhere near vtec & I guess much over 1500RPM. My TL is a 6MT so I have never tried it in an Acura.

No its not fine as its bad for the stock converter/transmission but you will get (jury out on the '09 TL) better results in a light to light race. At least until the transmission starts to fail.

It takes a racing converter which is specifically designed to take the stress & modified with different internal fins to get to vtec at stall.

These cars also use a transmission brake not the wheel brakes to hold them on the line. When they want to leave the line they release a button which is normally added onto the shifters stick

Be careful though, don't brake torque for too long, if you go to the racing & competition forum you will find tips on how to do it properly. Basically if you hold it for too long, you will generate too much heat and the engine will cut down power also. I believe you should brake torque for 1 second and then off you go.

Exactly, I've never had a tranny fail on me, and whenever I torque it is only for about 1-2 seconds, otherwise it can really cook the converter.

Thought I'd share some testing Jeff just did on TOV. Here's his post and the link. http://www.vtec.net/forums/one-messa...sage_id=809066

I did a little bit of acceleration testing with the 5AT SH-AWD Tech model that I'm driving at the moment.

A little info about the test conditions:
Fuel: 3/8 tank
Vehicle Mileage: 2630 miles
Driver: 195lbs
Other weight in the car: ~40lbs (offsetting some of the missing gas)
Weather: Clear, dry
Temp: 50.0 F
Elevation: ~1100ft
Wind: 1-3mph
Dew Point: 25.0F
Barometric Pressure: 30.22 in-Hg

I performed a series of runs and found the car to be very consistent from run to run. The variances seemed to come solely from the timing of my shifting (I briefly clipped the limiter on a few runs on the 1-2 shift). In full auto mode in S, I basically matched my very best manually shifted run. This car is quicker than I anticipated and judging by the rather weak 60' times this one posted, the 6MT version should be a damned monster.

Here are the range of results:
60': 2.2-2.3 @ 30.2-30.3 mph
330': 6.1-6.2 @ 61.4-62.2 mph
0-60mph: 5.9-6.0 sec (all runs except one were 5.9 sec, and I'm pretty sure that was one where I snagged the limiter on 1-2)
1/4 mile (only two full 1/4 mile runs were performed): 14.3@97.2 and 14.4@98.2 were the results.

awesome find Wave! Seems like your ipod dyno is pretty accurate I'm pretty sure the 6MT model will break into the 13's with ease and trap over 100mph, not bad at all.

stock CL-S 6MT should make about 220whp drop so 255hp is way too high. 14.48 is on the slow side though as stock it should be around 14.3.

It depends on your dyno but it's around 15%.

Road & Track did a little comparison of the popular performance testers.

They're all amazingly close, though I wished they had done actual 1/4 mile track runs to compare them all to.

If you have an iphone, Dynolicious is well worth the 12.99 for some fun basic testing, compared to the others at $199.00 to $499.00.

Hog,

I couldn't help but notice the item pictured at the bottom right of the ROAD & TRACK page you posted above.

I trust you have one of these proudly displayed on the dash of your new ride?

Great find! It's interesting to see that the numbers from Dynolicious are relatively conservative.

Anyways, just to be more fair the iphone itself is like $500 but that's still a bargain!

Well new customers can get the iphone for $199.00 here in the US. Is $500 US dollars the cheapest you can get it for in Canada as a new customer? If so ouch!

lol, actually we can get it for $199.99 too provided that you sign up their contract for 3 years, and that's CAD by the way I'm actually waiting for my current contract to end so that I can get an iphone (may be it's gonna be the 4G by the time my contract ends!)

Nice find Wave!

I will probably be getting an iPhone in the fall and the first app i will be getting is the dynolicious. Like you said....for $12.99 its a cheap way to have some fun and get a rough idea what you car or friends car is performing at.

Its too bad though that every test you see the dynolicious in that it still varies so much compared to the competitors. All the others are within one tenth but the dyno varies well over three tenths in different 0-60 runs. I guess it kinda supports what we talked about earlier in the thread....but ill take that discrepancy and save some money compared to something thats hundreds of dollars more.

I will agree that i wish they did the testing compared to a professional clock at a track. Its weird how the 1/4 mile times are fairly consistent but the 0-60 times always vary so much.
