J Pipe and CA smog - will it pass?

I live in California. If I were to add a J pipe to my car - is that something so noticeable that it would cause me to fail a CA smog inspection? is there any possibility it would go undetected at some smog stations, and not impact actual emissions and allow me to pass or is it a 100% no way I'm gonna pass?

have any of you passed CA smog with a j pipe on the car?

I don't want to mess with putting it on / taking if off - so if it's a bust I'll just pass on it. unless you all tell me the power gain is so massive it's worth all the hassle of putting it on and taking it off every two years to smog.

I'm likely going to vie my TL to my teenage son in the next 6 months to a year and don't want to have the hassle as if it's a smog problem, i'm going to be the one taking it off/putting it back on for him at smog time.

thanks.

Why do it if you're just giving it to your son in six months? A 3rd cat delete will still pass a smog test. Even putting hfpc will pass a smog test as found in older forums. You can also get a short j-pipe and get a third high flow cat as well. Our cars have an egr so they rake car of nox pretty darn good. One guy said he went with hfpc and j-pipe third cat delete and passed emmisions. Safest rought is all 3 high flow cats but it's pricey. The gains on just the one cat delete and jpipe are slightly noticeable and the exhaust note sounds alot better.
