Lynyrd Skynyrd Hits Package on DVD-A!

Wal-Mart has an exclusive DVD-Audio of Lynyrd Skynyrd Hits Package with Elliott Scheiner 5.1 Mix that came out August 7. It's only $11.98 with good sound quality. It comes with a cd and a DVD-Video in addition to the DVD-Audio. See

Thanks for the info, Seminole.

It's interesting, actually, as just the other day I ran into an old friend that drives a 3G. We got to talkijng about DVD-A's, and he mentioned that there will be a number of DVD-A's released again very shortly. Not sure what he has to go on, but he is one of those guys that just "knows things".

Well, after I saw this, I called almost all the Walmarts in my area. None of them had this in stock-and didn't know when they would get it in.

I ordered one from Amazon at the $30 price. These things don't come up very often, so I grabbed the opportunity. I hope Walmart does re-stock this. I didn't want to take a chance.

Sockpuppet-I REALLY hope your friend is right. I hate to see a terrific audio format like this dead.

Steven,
Let us know how it sounds. Mine will be here next week. Also, what other DVD-A's do you recommend?

^^^ Will do! In looking at the album, there are 3 discs....a regular CD, a DVD Video disc and a DVD Audio disc. Each disc contains different music, so that's kind of weird. But Eliot Scheiner did the 5.1 mix down.

There are a lot of terrific DVD-Audio discs out. The problem is availability and price now.

Realize that when DVD-Audio discs came out, they first took classic albums and remastered them.

--The Beatles "LOVE" disc is terrific-if you're a Beatles fan.
--Any of the Steely Dan or Donald Fagan discs are outstanding
--If you're a Smooth Jazz fan, the disc from Dave Koz called "The Dance" is awesome
--If you want to hear great separation, try the Toy Matinee album is terrific
--Elton John "Goodbye Yellowbrick Road"
--Doobie Brothers "The Captain and Me"

I recommend all these discs because of the unique separation and mix down of the music.

Quick Review if the DVD A disc.

Guys,

I got to listen to the DVD Audio disc this morning. I have a 7.1 surround sound home theater at home, which is where I listened to this.

The disc is good-there are 10 songs on the DVD-A disc. Eliot did a nice job with the separation on the songs. That Smell is the best. The background vocals come from the back!

Odd though, missing from the DVD-A disc is Sweet Home Alabama and What's Your Name!

NOTE: The DVD-Video disc is from a BBC Television show called Old Grey Whistle Test, which was originally broadcast in November 1975.

The regular CD has the most selection of songs and music, obviously.

Overall, I liked the 5.1 surround sound mix. I'm going to try it in the Type S later today. If you really want to hear outstanding 5.1 mixes, listen to any of the Steely Dan or Donald Fagen DVD-Audio discs-you'll be amazed.

Steven,

So is this a DVD-A or a DVD-A disguised as DVD Video disc? I bought the Queen "Night of the Opera" DVD-A disc from Amazon and it will not play in the TL, but it does sound good on the home stereo system. The TL has the ugly "This is not a supported disc" message. I am interested in hearing your results after you try the disc in your car.

Guys, I got off the air this afternoon, came home and popped this disc into the Type S.

All in all, it sounds good. After playing Skynyrd on the radio for over 35 years, I can pick up things you don't normally hear in the 2 channel mix down.

I still liked "That Smell" the best because the background vocals came from the rear. When there is non-background singing, you'll get guitar in the rear speakers.

One thing you have to remember is that this music was originally cut in the 1970's. So if you're looking for crystal clear, well recorded music, this isn't it. It still sounds good though.

All in all, it's a good disc and worth picking up.

Hmm that isn't the DVD-A? It doesn't say on it and seems too cheap.

Pimpin, you're right. The album I got has 3 discs. The Walmart link has only 2 discs.

Guys, here is a better Amazon link to the 3 disc set. It's more expensive than the Walmart set. But remember, that set is only 2 discs.

Can you copy these disks to the Hardrive and have them play in 5.1? Not sure if they have to be played from the disk!

Crap. As always, if it looks too good to be true . . . . Guess I'll be returning my Wal-Mart purchase.

All the one's I've got must be played from the disc and cannot be copied.

Just double check to see if you got the one with 3 discs. I could have sworn that first Walmart linked took you to the 3 disc set. Now, it doesn't seem to do that.

Check the link I posted from Amazon.com.

I just received my Lynyrd Skynyrd disksfrom Wal-Mart. 3 Disks included and the DVD-A sounds very good. Better than I thought!

I was also wondering where you stored your CD/DVD's in the car, not much space. I was thinking of a visor organizer and keeping the cases in the house! Looking for opinions!

I just put all of my DVD-A into slim holders and put the disk holders in the house. I put about 5 disks in the center console.

I put my jewel boxes in the door compartment. Do the 4G's have the same ones as the 3G's, where they open up slightly?

Guys, I don't know why the Walmart link only features 2 discs-this link will not give you the 3rd disc, which is the DVD Audio disc.

I checked my Amazon link that I provided you earlier. Now, there are 8 new copies of this disc as low as $26.95.

I ordered my disk at Walmart.com with ship-to-store. The link was for the 2 disk and was a little over $11, but what I got today was the 3 disk set, with cd, dvd video and dvd-a.
