Key-Controlled Power Souce

I installed a new Viofo A119 V3 dashcam in my 2012 Acura TL and hardwired it to the fuse box by the passeger's kick panel. The dashcam received power and worked fine, but the problem is that it constantly receives power and runs constantly. I want it to only have power when the engine is running or the car is in ACCessories Mode. I used an Add-a-Fuse kit to tap power from the ACC fuse socket (#16 in the pictures). The ACC receptacle had no power when the car is OFF and not in ACC mode, yet its fuse socket has power all the time (I checked with a voltmeter). Same thing when I tapped from the Rear Power Window fuse socket (#11). The rear power window wouldn't operate when the engine is OFF and not in ACC mode, yet the Power Window fuse socket has power all the time. How is that possible?

I hardwired a Viofo A119 V2 in my 2007 Miata using the same technique by tapping into the ACC fuse socket and it works as desired (only when engine is running or in ACC mode).

I'd appreciate any help you can give me.

Update: I did some more testing and found that in the driver side fuse box the ACC fuse socket (#18) is key-controlled. I'll be rewiring my dashcam to use that fuse socket.

Can you send us some pictures and parts used of your 'setup'? I have thinking about adding a dash cam as well. THANKS!

Viofo A119 V3 has some nice reviews on Dash Cam Central.

It is easy if you have done it before.

yes, exactly like that! you plug it into a fuse slot, depending on your needs...if you need it to be always on, or if you just need a key'd source

I also find it odd that the OP's ACC fuse turned out to be "always on"

It's not just my car. I searched and found THIS OLD THREAD where the poster experienced the exact probem that I had. As it turned out, the ACC fuse (#18) in the driver side fuse box is key-controlled, but the ACC fuse (#16) in the passenger side fuse box is hot all the time.

I used a Viofo A119V3 and This Hard-Wiring Kit . I like that kit because it comes with a variety of add-a-fuse sizes. I have a Viofo A119 V2 (earlier version) installed in my 2007 Miata and I really like the way Viofo designed their products.

I bought the A119V3 for $109.90 on Newegg.com (sold by Adorama) because Paypal had a $15 OFF offer. That turned out to be a mistake because that one does not come with a GPS mount (which adds GPS coordinates and vehicle speed to the video). So I had to order a GPS mount separately for about $20. I should've bought
The one on Amazon The one on Amazon
which is $99.90 but comes with the GPS mount.

The GPS mount is scheduled for delivery this Wednesday. After I've got it and rewired the dashcam using the ACC fuse on the driver side, I'll post some pictures of the installation. Meanwhile, below is a screenshot from a dashcam video recorded by my A119 V3.

I got my kit a few years ago with the GPS mount and Polarizing filter for about $130 with the A119S V2. Been very happy with the camera. Make sure you get a good SD card rated for 1080 HD use or 4K video use. Otherwise you'll end up with buffering issues and dropped framerate.

My Viofo GPS mount arrived a day late, but I've got it installed and hardwired. I tapped power from the ACC fuse socket (#18) in the driver side fuse box. There was not a good ground point so I drilled a hole in the bracket that holds the OBDII port to put the ground wire. Following the tips in
I tucked the wire from the GPS mount under the headliner, out to the driver side A-pillar, down the door frame, and into the fuse box. The finished job looks really neat and clean. The GPS mount is slightly left of the

rear-view mirror, out of its swing. The dashcam is slipped onto the mount. It's low-profile and pretty well hidden by the dark band at the top of the windshield. From outside, you can't really tell that the car has a dashcam.
