iPhone 3G Issue
iPhone 3G Issue
Well,
I am loving the new car, but have uncovered a bit of an issue. When plugging my iPhone 3G into the usb port, I got a notification that it will not charge the phone. the iPod function still works, and bluetooth works like a charm.
Unfortunately, not being able to charge the phone while playing it will eat the battery, so I will have to plug in a separate iPod, which kinda defeats the purpose of the iPhone...
hopefully Acura can come up with another cable that will work, but for now this is a bit of a bummer

iPhone doesn't work with A2DP, thus the bluetooth audio.
It has been known for months that the iPhone 3G doesn't work with the older cables. It's a shame that they couldn't have changed the spec. Hopefully we can come up with a mod cable if they can't...

Man that sucks that it won't charge the iPhone 3G. Hopefully Acura will correct that issue. I would go to your dealer and make them aware of that and have them ask Acura if they plan on a fix.
This really doesn't make any sense. If you are plugging the phone in to the USB port, it should have no problem charging. The 3G only has problems when connected to a cable charging over the Firewire pins.
(Unfortunately, although I have a iPhone 3G, I don't have a 4G TL to test it.)

Pete,
When you use the apple cable and plug into the usb port in the console, you do not get a message that the accessory is incompatible with the iPhone3G?
Very curious, I will try with a different cable...

No....it charges just fine. (Make sure you're using the right cable and your iPhone has the latest software installed).
Hmm
Well,
I read these reply's, grabbed another cable, which I just came from my ipod touch, and when I plug the iPhone 3G in, I get a message "this accessory is not certified with iPhone, would you like to enter Airplane mode to avoid interference"
It shows a charge symbol in the battery icon, but I am not certain it is charging. Is no one with an iPhone 3G getting this message when they plug in?
Perhaps I got the "LT" version of the USB connector

I believe all iPhones offer to turn off the radio to avoid the 'dirka dirka' sound when the phone connects to the signal tower. I have an original iPhone and I get this message. If the big green battery shows on the phone, it is charging.
I think its just your car and you should let the dealer know about it, maybe its a bad usb cable that came with the car? worst case scenario you might have to get this https://acurazine.com/forums/showpos...9&postcount=18

I have been traveling this week and haven't had the chance to follow up here.
I tried different cables, and get the same error message. However, I have discovered that the phone does charge and have full ipod functionality.
Unfortunately, there is a buzzing sound when playing audiobooks that is not present when I use other ipods.
I don't know what all of this means, but if no one else is getting the "this accessory not certified for iPhone" message on the phone itself when plugged in, I may have a defective usb connector, or the phone could be bad, although I find either unlikely.
For grins, I did order the power inverter and will try when it arrives.

I get the same message with my iPhone 3G, but I assume its normal since i got that message with pretty much every iPhone car audio adapter when I had my Accord. Since Edge horrifically interferes (like the nextels) with car speakers, the airplane mode would presumably reduce most of it. HSPDA (3G) on the other hand has nearly zero interference and works flawlessly despite that message when I plug it into my 09TL.
The reason you are getting an incompatible accessory message is to let you know that you may experience static due to your cellular signal. They put this message on the iPhones because when the phone is placed near speakers, or other electronics it can cause static. You will notice that if you are too close to a speaker, the speaker will emit static just before the phone rings. You shouldn't have any problems because unlike your desktop-like ipod speakers where the iPhone would be in close proximity to the actual speakers, your iPhone will probably be in the handy arm rest drawer. When the phone is put into airplane mode it turns off any wireless signals such as wifi, blue tooth, and even your cellular network, eliminating the static issue. You shouldn't have to do that in the car, however, and your phone will charge.
