Hi folks,

I've been at this for two days. My TL's navi unit is only showing me the caller's number but no name. I've deleted and reinstalled the phone but still no dice. It's an iPhone 5 by the way.

Any help is appreciated.

 

I can't speak to the 4G TL but on the 3G TL and 2G MDX only the number displays.

 

My 2012 SH-AWD/Tech ONLY shows the phone#/no name

2012 TL w/ Tech and iPhone 5 also. Same issue. Sometimes it will show the name and other times it won't. I can't see any pattern to it doing this and wish it would just show the name every time.

 

Is it that it only shows the name of the downloaded phonebook?

 

No because I have my phonebook downloaded and still no dice.

 

I may be wrong but I wanna say it may only show your favorites/speed dial? I really have no clue I have the exact same issues.

 

i believe it has to do with the way your carrier delivers the number. It may add a '1' to the number which, when your car goes to x-ref the delivered number to a name in it's phonebook, it can't find it (it's looking for 1-555-555-1234 and it can't find it, so only the delivered phone number is shown. Try adding a "1" to the xxx-xxx-xxxx in your phones directory, then remember to re-load it into your car.

Mine shows +1 on the call display in the car. I added the +1 and still nothing...

 

sorry to hear that. I believe that the car takes the incoming number and searches for it in it's database. In my case none of the numbers in car's phonebook started with a 1. I added a 1 to a test number on my phone, deleted and reloaded the phone into the car and it worked. It was a hassle to add 1's to all my contacts but that was my solution.

 

I am using Bold. I have to add "+1" and remove all "-" from all phone entries, reimport the phonebook, then it works.

 

Does anyone know if its supposed to show me a name? Does anyone else have just the number showing?

 

I've only had my 2013 TL SH-AWD Adv. for a couple of weeks but like the others on this thread it only shows me the number (no name) even though a name is showing on my iPhone screen (which means the entry is in my phone book). There is a lot not to like about the technology platform on this car unfortunately - I hope Acura treats it like most other high end electronics and offers firmware upgrades over time. Another nit of mine is the it would appear you can't force a re-import of the phone book unless you delete the paired phone and re-pair it.

 

I believe mine shows the namer shows the name. I will test and see. I have an 09 and an iPhone5 with AT&T. My address book is synced to my Outlook at my office, therefore there are no 1's in the numbers.

Sadly I wouldn't hold my breath on firmware updates for the factory radios (there hasn't been one to my knowledge for any TL ever, not to be confused with Map/Gracenote Updates). They don't care about the stereo/navigation after the car has left production and the sales lot. That might keep you from buying the next years model that maybe they fixed that issue or not...

 

Pretty much same on my 2012. However, the system seems to download my phone log activity with each startup. This is another area you can choose to dial from & this area seems to include the names because it is downloading recent phone activity. The log also seems to help update my speed-dial names too which do not always show a name. I am using a Samsung Galaxy Siii, so it may work differently with your Iphone.

I also have had no luck downloading my entire voluminous contacts list. Looks like there should be plenty of room for the dowload on the HD, but the portions downloaded seem pretty random (beginning of list plus some other stuff)?? Anyone have better success with this or same issue & had it solved?

I believe I was able to fix this issue by turning on “show notifications“ in my Bluetooth connection on the iPhone. The contact names showed up with my iPhone 5s, but when I upgraded to the iPhone 7 Plus, the contact names would not show, only numbers. I went into the Bluetooth connection on the iPhone for the Acura, and I turned on “show notifications”. I then disconnected, and reconnected the Bluetooth to the Acura. This involved disconnecting on the iPhone as well as deleting the iPhone 7 Plus from the Bluetooth device list in the Acura. I then turned on “show notifications“ and reconnected to the Acura. I don’t believe I gave it enough time to show the contact names, however, so I went in and added the numeral “1” to the beginning of one of the contacts as a test. This didn’t work initially either, but I decided to take a break from trying to fix this problem. Then as I was driving, the contact names showed up. I believe it was a result of the “show notifications” being turned on. Give it a few minutes, and I believe that should fix the issue.
