Is this a blown speaker?

During my morning commute today, I just noticed when the audio is on, it "sounds" like the entire left side of the speakers have no sound. The cabin acoustics sounds "off" and imbalanced, as if I could only hear the right and center speakers.

I tried the sample DVD-A disc playing one of the tracks (track 22 I think?) that plays each channel one by one (demonstrating each channel), and that track doesn't sound too abnormal. I'm going to play this track again when I have time, but... when playing the radio/HDD, I could swear the left speakers, esp the left driver's side, have not output.

Anyone experience this before, or am I getting deaf?

With a blown speaker you will still get sound from the speaker with distortion. It should not be totally silent. Try to play something with a bit of bass and listen for distorted response at normal volume levels.

I had a weird experience over the weekend as well. I was listening to music with the sound level around 9-10 and I could hear the sound "fluttering" around the top of the dash. Turned the volume down, but it was still present somewhat. Haven't had it repeat, so will have to wait and see for this to occur again. Haven't checked vehicle diagnostics, but wonder if it'll show up there.

Try isolating the speaker(s) and play music through it.

Played around with the settings a bit, esp "balance." Seems like when I shift the balance all the way to the right and left, their seems to be an equal amount of volume when the balance setting is at either extreme.

But: when the balance is in the middle, it still seems as if the right side sounds louder. At lower volume settings of 1-7, if I adjust the balance so it favors the left by 2 bars, left and right speakers sound equal.

However, when the balance is in the middle, if I increase the volume setting to say 8 or 9, both left and right sound equal.

What gives? I must be losing it, or is my left ear going deaf?

Try it using the am radio which is non stereo. I have never noticed anything like your situation.

left ear would esp go 1st when we drove w/ the driver's side window down - now days w/ ac in every car - prob not as true as in the past. - I used to drive a '72 2002 to college (wasn't new then) but the ac was only good at night and when it was cool outside) - so that old car I often had the window down when driving- all that wind noise eventually does make the left ear a little deaf (more so than the right)

I have experienced this many times, where the sound from the entire left side of the vehicle goes out. This only happens when I am playing music from the HDD, but every other music source (iPod, radio, etc) works fine. It doesn't happen all the time, which pisses me off because when I bring it dealership, it always works fine (of course!). I am hopping for a TSB to come out on this issue, but being that I really don't listen to music on the HDD much at all, the issue is not that big of a deal to me.
