2010 DVD Map Update.. Worth it?

Hi I just received an e-mail from Acura for a chance to upgrade to the 2010 DVD map for $149. It is pretty expensive and I am wondering if anyone has bought this and if it is worth the money to upgrade?

I paid the 185 plus shipping. Not sure if it worth it but I like having the latest. It is a DVD that you install on to the hard drive. Takes about 2 hours. Make sure you give them your VIN and they give you the activation code.

If you have a 2009-2010 car, it should have the newest update map in the car, if not, they should upgrade the car under warranty...it seems.

The 09 models have maps from 08, so this March of 2010 update is 2 years newer. It would be nice if they gave us the upgrade for free - but no way. There will be an update every year from Navteq just like with the Garmin units. You do not have to update unless you feel that there are errors or problems when you use navi to drive. I figured I would do this one update since I had 08 maps. Having 2010 maps made me feel better even though I don't use navi that much.

I got the DVD for the update. I got it discounted, paid $120 I think, they were running some promotion.

I haven't had a chance to test much POI or anything, but the response time is SO much better. There is no lag from hitting OK to the warning. There is no lag anymore flipping through screens and maps.

The update on the Canadian site is $249. Does anybody know if the US update can by applied to a Canadian TL? The US site wont accept my VIN.

If I'm not mistaken, the documentation in my DVD showed that the coverage included Canada. The DVD I think was also listed as the Red version, for North America.

Cool Nav Update

I recently updated my Nav in my 09 TL. I only have the new update for a day, but Nav looks the same. I am sure some routes have been updated. Nice to have the latest update though. The price is steep, but it is an Acura TL.
The Disc and password may be able to be used for another car, I am not sure ? Anybody know ?

The passcode you enter depends on VIN and the Nav device ID. So each car needs a different passcode entered to do the update.

Just bought a 2010 TL. The guy that goes over the features of the car let me know that maps are upgradeable via the USB drive at no cost to the owner. I had him double check. Came back with the same answer.

I believe the only way to upgrade is to buy The DVD.

FWiW, I just typed "navteq red" into teh google, and this is what came up (at a subscription $$$ torrent site):

Navteq.2010.Red.Dvd.Map.Update.V1.91.7.80.For.Acur a.rar 1883 Kbit/s
Navteq.2010.Red.Dvd.Map.Update.V1.91.7.80.For.Acur a-PDF.pdf 1353 Kbit/s
Navteq.2010.Red.Dvd.Map.Update.V1.91.7.80.For.Acur a.full.rar 1934 Kbit/s
Navteq.2010.Red.Dvd.Map.Update.V1.91.7.80.For.Acur a-2010.avi 1013 Kbit/s
Navteq.2010.Red.Dvd.Map.Update.V1.91.7.80.For.Acur a.edition.2010.crack.zip 1331 Kbit/s

I personally don't use Torrents, but if anybody's into hackery it would be nice to know if any of this really works. Especially if you could move files via USB thumb drive. 2 to 3.5 hour install from a DVD? For a single DVD disc that costs twice what a complete TomTom does? Come ON, Acura! Shame on you!

I actually asked this exact same question in a different thread last week, but then the thread closed so I'm glad I found this one! I'd heard about www.updateyourmap.com for the update, but it takes you to the same place, so it must be that both acura and navteq are promoting it. The site I just listed offers a bunch of different car models and hand-helds (my friend went on there for her Garmin and my sister-in-law for the Audi Q7).

Hasn't proven to be worth it yet!

I just got the new update last week (black version, 2.70, paid $159 plus $9.95 s/h). So far, it's not worth it. Although the map has been updated, the POIs don't seem to have been updated. They are still hard to find as they are categorized sloppily. For example, you want to go to Costco. You might find listings for Costco, Costco Wholesale, Costco Wholesale Inc., etc. And there may be 5 Costcos in your town, all split up amongst those different listings.

But worse than the POI problem is the stalling. I updated from version 2.05. Never had any problems with it aside from it needing some map updates. Now, there is a long stall on the warning screen while you wait for the "OK" button to appear. There seem to be very long stalls when typing in address info (between each letter you type) and while the system calculates the route. Much longer than usual.

And the worst problem yet, I regularly have the system plot out a route and show it on the screen just fine but it doesn't recognize that I am following the route. So even though I'm on the route, it won't show what street I'm on, won't give voice commands, won't update the time remaining in my trip, and won't update the miles remaining. The cursor follows the path but all other features are "checked out", so to speak. I'm planning to call Acura and/or Navteq on this one.

The first time this happened, I tried several different methods to fix it....restarting the car in order to restart the DVD, canceled and re-entered the address from the beginning, and tried a different address to see if it would work. None of those solutions worked. I then went into the settings and turned off the "Verified Re-Routing" function. This was a new function for me (not part of the version 2.05). This worked the first time I encountered the problem but not the next time. So, I'll see if I can get any help from the powers that be.
