Android 2.1
Android 2.1
I am in the market for a smartphone that is running android 2.1 and wanted to know if anyone has had any success using this phone OS with their 4G TL with Nav HFL. The real question is does it pair, stay connected, allowing incoming and outgoing phone calls.
I have the Motorola Droid from Verizon. It pairs and makes incoming/outgoing calls and the bluetooth audio works fine. The only thing is that you have to give it about a minute or two for it to connect the phone part of bluetooth. The stereo bluetooth connects right away, but the phone part takes a little bit sometimes. But I've noticed that if I leave the bluetooth on my phone on before I start my car, it will connect right away. Hope that helps.
I have the Motorola Droid with 2.1 on Verizon and I leave my bluetooth enabled all the time. My phone pairs immediately with the car, way faster than in my 2006. Bluetooth streaming music works great, sound quality is pretty decent. Also, the car will automatically download your entire contact list from the phone, which is awesome.
The only difference I see, as compared to the system in the 3G is that you can only store, if I remember correctly, voice commands for 20 contacts. In the 3G, I could store a voice name for every phonebook entry. Unless I'm missing something, it seems like you can only pair your voice to 20 contacts.
One other different than the 3G, is that you must press the phone button to bring up the phone screen first, and then push the talk button and say dial "your stored voice name". And, if you want to dial a direct phone number... from the NAV screen, you have to press the phone button, then the voice button and say "Dial", then let that screen come up and then press the voice button again and say the number. Extra steps, but still works.
One thing that I can't get to work is the where the phone connects to acuralink to download service information. There are some manual settings, which I haven't looked into to get it to work, because I could really care less, but may be able to make it work with the correct settings. It has a listing for Verizon as your provider, but it doesn't work for me.

Running 2.1 on the Droid, works perfectly well with HFL over Bluetooth. Also, the sound quality over bluetooth audio is excellent... I like to stream audiobooks or This American Life on long drives, and the quality is perfect.
