There's a TSB out on defective XM heads on certain TL's. Once you experience dropouts (or silence but radio display is working) there's no way to "fix" it other than to shut off the car and restart it. If this is not your situation then you have a reception issue.

For me this doesn't happen often but it has happened more than 5x so next time I'm in for service I'm going to ask them to replace it. It's covered under warranty.

You can find this in the TSB links posted in one of the stickies.

thanks king, i thinking it is a reception issue. i complained about it and dealer replaced the unit. they had the car for a week and the gave me an mdx to drive and it dropped out at the same spots as my tl! what bothers me is a lot of the times when it drops out its under a wide open sky!

I have dropouts as well, but only when I'm driving next to an embankment. Its annoying as hell, but at least I understand why it's happening. It really sucks on highways.

Yep. I have those too. Very annoying but if the antenna can't see the satellite, you'll have the drop outs.
