My friend was driving my car and someone made a ridiculous left turn and pulled into her lane hitting her head on. Radiator is busted. Front air bags (thank God I had the recall work done last week!). Windshield. 115k miles sh-awd w/ tech and not a scratch on it till today. What do you guys think, should I start looking for a new car?
Based upon the exterior damage, I'd say it could go either way...
But the airbags are used, and it broke the windshield... Those airbags are expensive...
The damage doesn't seem to suggest any structural issues, but you never know...
It it may just need a front cap, radiator, consider, and radiator crossmember, but then there's now interior damage...
Then on top of that, it's not even a recent TL, but rather one that's atleast 5-8 years old, factor that in with the mileage, and between $7-12k in damage... It'll be close, and probably too much...
It's prolly going to be close... damage doesn't look too severe... depends on the year, mileage, & how much damage there is that we can't see in the pics.... Also depends on your coverages/deductibles...
Just about guarantee that it will end up back on the road though..

Even if theres a chance it is not totalled... You better hope it is! That car will never be the same.
I really don't think it would be any different... The subframe and other major structural components were likely not affected...
Both of my vehicles have been wrecked similarly years before I got them, they both drive fine... A member also rebuilt his TSX after totaling way wore than OP, and he says it's exactly the same...
In fact, the I thing that I think would total it is the interior damage of the airbags...
I've been a passenger in two accidents, both being a hard forward stop... (25 mph and 45 mph)... Neither time did the airbags deploy, both times I walked out fine...
Unless its it's like a frontal offset with a cloistered speed of 60 mph (100kph) there's no point in deploying the bags, or atleast in my experience....
I really hate them... I'd like to keep the damage as concise as possible...

LOL that's not how it works.....
as stated, the OP had gotten the air bag recall done... so, count with me...that's already ONCE that it was replaced. and it worked flawlessly, as pictured above.
if the OP does not elect to keep the car, the car will get repaired and sold...(that will be the 2nd time the air bag gets replaced)
and if you are wondering; ive had my air bags deploy twice in accidents.

I'm glad you are fine with no injuries......yes there is a very good probability it is totaled and with the airbags deployed I'm not so sure you want to have that car repaired anyway.....time to start visiting dealer lots IMHO....sorry for a nice 4G to end up this way.
70% of 15K is about 10K in parts and labor to total out your car
New radiator - $100
New Windshield - $300
New Hood - $1000
New front bumper - $750
New Fenders - $1500
Dashboard - $1000
Driver Airbag - $700
Passenger Airbag - $600
Rounded up on prices including paint, some other stuff I didn't account for but close to being totaled.
You left out the SRS computer, unless you're putting that under 'Dashboard'. That has to be replaced after an accident and is a couple hundred usually.

I told them I had all new OEM suspension, timing chain, water pump, spark plugs and had the car fully detailed. Hoping they offer me more than that. I can't find another TL for 14k as clean as mine.

My insurance company pays well and I got 9K for a 2007 Kia with 79k miles...
That at is pretty low... I'm thinking more around 16k, but the values plummeted earlier this year with airbags and all...

IMO insurance don't care whatever parts are new or recently installed. They go off the marker value, of course need to fight to get more $$$

$14.5 is right in line with what csmeance estimated the vehicle at ($15k)

You should definitely ask for more, however I don't think you're going to get much more. It may seem high but ask for $16,500 and hopefully they come back a little over $15,000.

Also, I believe that they need to pay for tax, title, and licensing fees on top of the value of your car... As others have said, insurance unfortunately doesn't really care if you did, what in their eyes, is simply maintenance

$15,225 is the average price of your car in average condition. With that maintenance, your car is easily at the Clean level (17K) as you spent nearly 2K to ensure the car would be good for another 100K miles. Pull up listings for a car with similar color, package and miles for sale and you can use that to get a higher value from your insurance company. After all you are asking your insurance company to get your into a similar car to what you were driving. Granted they won't pay for tax, tag and title costs but you can minimize your expense by fighting for the most value from your car. Worst case, retain an attorney to get your your fair value for your car.
take that check and move on. car has 115k miles!!! That horse is dead. Stop beating it.
GEICO raised it up $300 for having an "extra clean" interior. They valued the car at roughly 13k + tax. All this time fighting with them I could have used the 14k as a down payment on something else.
Now...do I get another TL? the TLX i don't like.... might look at a infinti M37.. i really miss my TL
