Stainless Steel Question
Hello,
A few months ago, I put some stainless steel quad exhaust tips on my stock exhaust TL. The length wasn't really perfect so it's kind of sticking out an inch or two. I still had my factory tips with me and I decided to go change it back today. The mechanic told me that you can't really cut stainless steel when it's already welded? He also couldn't do it because the inlet of the tips was 2.5" and the outlet of the muffler was 2.25". Was he correct that you can't really cut the stainless steel off the muffler? I'm pretty sure you can but I'm guessing it's a hard process. Should I just go to another exhaust shop and ask? Thanks!

The inconvenient truth
You can it's just more work that it seems like he doesn't want to do. I have the same tips and have had a them chopped off and welded back on 3 times now lol. I've also had them shortened to be flush with the bumper. It's not exactly rocket science.

Drifting
It can be cut and welded back. Sounds like he doesn't want the hassle.
It is only an issue when Welding and Grinding back the same area repeatedly, what happens is the the Metal gets too thin and will the perforate easily. In your case you want to shorten the Exhaust so there is no issue.

I was thinking of adding the quad tips to my TL. Where did you purchase yours?

Hmmm...Yeah... that's what I thought. I guess i'll just go to another shop then and see if they would do it for me.
I got mine from https://www.ebay.com/itm/STAINLESS-S...-/271293188654. It's cheap and looks pretty good but you just need to shorten like I said before.

Thanks for the link. How does the car sound? I remember having a N1 muffler installed on my old Maxima and it sounded very raspy. I had all my cats just a straight pipe welded in place of my resonator which was rusted. Here's a video of my old Max. https://youtu.be/hf0GUtmS1hE
