Question about exhaust tips

I went to a local muffler shop and asked them if they'd be able to extend the muffler tips on my 2004 NBP TL. The owner of the shop said it couldn't be done because the exhaust pipes are slanted and the angle won't allow him to use a straight pipe to give it the 2 inches I wanted to extend it.

I find this hard to believe but would like to hear from some others on this forum.

In short, can I extend the OEM tips or do I have to get a new muffler with new tips?

It's been done before, guy was probably just being lazy and didn't want to do the work. But I know people have extended their stock tips to match the ASPEC lip better.

Yup, all he needs to do is cut the stock tips off at a point where he still has some room to weld the custom pipe extension. Cut the remaining pipe, muffler to base tip, off of the muffler, which would give him a good template to work off of. I've watched the shop I go to create some one offs for other applications way more difficult then this.
