Seat heater question

I recently got the recall notice on the torque converter, so I've got to bring my '09 to the dealer for that. While I'm there, I'm wondering if I should have them look at my seat heater. I notice it warms up, but it seems predominantly in the seat back, and less so under the seat cushion itself. Lately it's been getting colder here (averaging about -15C...I think that's about 5F for our friends to the south), and when I go in to work, I notice the heat in the back first. And that's through a suit jacket and a thick (padded) leather coat. I should be feeling it in the "seat". How do other's find the seat heaters? Since my comprehensive is up in March, if there's an issue, I'd like to get it taken care of right away if it's malfunctioning.

For that matter, are there any other issues that are common warranty complaints that I should watch out for in the final months?

I notice the heat under seat cushion more than the back of the seat and it can get pretty toasty on the cushion part. I would have the dealer take a look at it.

You should be feeling it in the seat. It is definitely noticeable, especially on high.

I had this issue in my '01 TL and the heating element was swapped out under warranty with no questions asked. Usually, you feel the seat heater more prominently in the bottom cushion as youre body weight naturally brings you closer to the heat than the seatback. just my two cents. I would definitely bring it to the dealership... especially if it's under warranty.

Thanks guys...guess I'll get it checked out. It's hard to tell, as the seat is certainly warm by the time I get to the office, but that might be just from me sitting on it. I certainly don't get the "hey, did I wet myself" feeling my wife's Ford Expedition puts out (which is after, I should note, having the seat element replaced).

** Maybe yours is heated by 'natural' gas ** [LOL]

I certainly don't get the "hey, did I wet myself" feeling ....

** Now there is an image I needed after supper....sweaty butt crack **
For the record, I find that Acura seats never really output as fast as other cars brand for some reason. They do eventually reach a decent temp but I like a quick heating seat for our cold Canadian climate.

It seems the question was well founded. Bottom seat element was burned out. I'm told it's common. All I know is, it means the dealer get to keep my whip overnight.

holy cow.. i recently started using the seat heaters in my 09 w/tech - didn't realize there was supposed to be heat coming from the back. I only feel it from the cushion.

I'll have to try the passenger side to see if there's a difference

Haha, I was actaully thinking not long ago that they should also have also made the back of the seat heat up and not just the cushion. I'll have to visit the dealer as well.

IIRC I think the drive seat heats up but the passenger seat back. Something to do with the passenger side airbag sensor.

Driver's seat should heat up in the seat, and the back...passenger side is seat only. The back doesn't have a heating element due, as you've indicated, to the airbag sensor.

I have more heat on the seat and less on the seat back. Mind you, I put it on the high setting and as soon as I feel heat, I turn it off. Too bad the Acura's never came with the heated steering wheel like my Maxima did. Loved that feature.

The rear window defrost doesn't work well either. The design is bad, when you start the rw defrost the mirrors also draw current, then you have seats, fan and the electric steering. Too much draw.
