resetting Oil change with 15k rated oil
So I just did first oil change in my 12 since getting in November. It is the mobil 1 15k rated oil. I was just under 7100 miles and reminder was at 15% but going on trip so needed to do now. I usually run 10k miles on previous chances. And knowing the computer calculates the change based on driving conditions, has anyone just reset theirs half way through at 5k miles?
Thanks
Thanks

As many others have pointed out previously, changing your oil more frequently is better as a general rule.
It does depend on your driving conditions and your climate to some extent.
There are different ways to look at the question though.
I imagine there are many vehicles on the road with mileage way past sensible limits and what harm do they suffer?
My own current practice is to change - using high quality synthetic oil - only once a year.
But this amounts to about 7,000 mi max.

I would argue that is the "general rule" propagated by shops wanting extra business. In this day and age, changing full synthetic oil more frequently than every ten to twelve thousand miles (at the minimum) is a waste of resources, time, basically, there is zero benefit from more frequent oil changes when it comes to engine longevity.

I change mine more frequently than 10K - 12K miles but I'm amazed that places like Jiffy Lube still advertise the 3000 mile oil change. Are there any cars built in the last 10 years that requires a 3000 mile oil change?

Guys thanks for your input! I changed second weekend in april ago before our spring break drive to Panama city fla which was 960 mi each way plus a hundred driving around while there.. and have 3k miles since the change now. It just flipped this week to 70%. I will probably reset when it gets to 50-60%. Also going to do an oil analysis at 10k just to see how it tests out. I checked last week and no oil loss at all which is better than my Maxima did. Usually had to add a little over quart between changes on that 3.5 engine.

Just joined up on the forum today. Seems most threads I’m adding to are not too terribly recent. Must be TL interest waning since it hasn’t been produced for a handful of years. I checked and adjusted my valves are year ago at 124,000 miles, bought it with 105,000. Everything in the valve train was colored a “transparent” light carmel brown. Inside of the valve covers was darker and the thin layer could be scraped off with a fingernail. Have any of you run into that when adjusting your valves? A 7000-8000 mile oil change interval in a hot engine compartment is what I would characterize as the culprit for that, thoughts?
