of course it's been done.
plasti-dip is cheap at 7 dollars a can. and can easily be peeled off.

however, there is a learning curve on spraying.
if you've ever done arts and crafts before, you know what I'm talking about. uneven spray patterns and drips can happen.

also, since its easily removable, when removing the painters tape, the plastidip can come up.

So, it takes some practice to get a smooth consistent spray.
From far away, it'll make the trim look AWESOME!!!!

but then as you come closer to the car, you'll see imperfections.
If I had a choice to wrap or plastidip, I'D WRAP IT UP!

I've done my trim on a different car about 8 or 9 times already..
Each time, it gets closer to perfection....but still doesnt come close to a wrap job

It can't hurt to try the plasti-dip for a cool $7.00? If it looks bad, keep trying and then decide to wrap.

Plastidip has its pros and cons, as justnspace mentioned it all boils down to how well you prep and your experience applying it.

I've done a complete black to white dipped EVO IX and you certainly learn alot - it's a fantastic product when used properly and for the right reasons.

If you were wondering what your trim would look like black and pictures just don't do it for you, it's great to try. I would suggest finding some old chrome or plastic pieces in your garage and working with them first, to learn how to spray it, how it dries, how it finishes, how to mask around it (you don't need to mask the actual item being dipped, just immediately around it).

Biggest tip i could give you is your first coat has to be very light and even, to give the rest of the dip something to adhere to. The following coats need to go on thick almost to the point of running (you need to find that fine line, and only will through experience) otherwise, if you continue light coats you will get a rough finish. Also make sure the nozzle of the can is clean, after every coat turn the can upside down and spray until it comes out clear. If you live in a cold area you will need to warm the can up prior to spraying or it will come out in a nasty stream and ruin everything.

Good luck in your dip goals of 2013
