Here are some highlites...

Six Speed auto (manual still available on SH)
20/29 rating on automatic
3 db quieter at highway speeds
60 GB hard drive system
Advance has ventilated seats and blind spot monitoring.

My opinion on the looks of the car is that they did a good job, and I will say at this time I could live with the looks without issue.

I really like the new styling. It's not as sleek, but more refined. I didn't have audio on my computer, did they announce when it will be available at the dealership and the price?

I'm also assuming the electonics got a minor tweak with Song by Voice since the TSX has that, I also hope the noise cancellation is back (maybe that is the NVH improvment)

They did not, but the two features can't add anywhere near that much to the price.

Like it much better than the 09-11's, while I can appreciate cutting edge styling I thought it was a bit over the top. Love the addition of the 6 speed as well as better economy..... would have liked to see a HP bump but Im curious as to what the test numbers will be with the extra gear and Im sure obvious final drive ratios that are different. Vented seats will be a welcome addition.

Good Job Acura, way to listen to the people and act on it

considering we all spent around 38k otd ish give or take a k or two usd, the new one will set you back 10k more would be my guess...i would still take a 2011 over the 2012 for that kind of a difference in price...now if i can get a new 2012 sh for 40k otd, then i might be in...but we all know thats not going to happen....

No Horsepower Increase

Just caught the web cast. No horsepower increase. 6-speed automatic increases gas mileage to 20 city and 29 highway. not sure which engine this rating is for the 3.5 or the 3.7. My guess is the 3.5. Three trim levels TL, TL Advance, and TL Tech. New heated and ventilated seats and 60GB hard drive for Nav. I like it. I think it looks more uniform and sleeker. They said the car is actually shorter

I wish I could keep my car and add the Advance Package. The front end is a bit too civicish for me.

02/09/2011 - TORRANCE, Calif.
Making its debut at the 2011 Chicago Auto show, Acura's newly refined TL delivers fresh looks, improved performance and upgraded technology. Most apparent are the visual changes that incorporate new front and rear styling, but also present is a new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission for improved performance and fuel economy, a revised interior and a host of technology upgrades.
"The 2012 Acura TL is refined, yet aggressive," said Jeff Conrad, vice president of Acura sales. "Already known for its great performance, the enhanced TL has a sophisticated new look and an all-new 6-speed automatic transmission that will take performance to the next level."
The 2012 TL's refined new look includes a redesigned front bumper with improved aerodynamics, a revised grille, updated headlights and turn signals, a new fog light design and a shorter front overhang. At the rear, a new rear bumper incorporates a significantly repositioned license plate opening and smaller rear reflectors, while updated taillights and a thinner rear trunk edge trim add to a sophisticated new look.
To increase performance, a new Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission is applied on all TL models with automatic transmission. In addition to incorporating engineering enhancements aimed at improving efficiency, a sport-minded double-kick-down feature lets the driver command a double downshift— such as from Fifth to Third gear. The Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system also creates a "blip" of the throttle to help match gear speeds while downshifting.
In addition, the transmission teams with a new multi-clutch torque converter that not only reduces heat build-up during operation, but also allows for lock-up activation during a much wider range of driving conditions— which helps generate improved fuel economy. As a result, city/highway fuel economy is now 20/29 mpg*— an increase of 3 mpg in highway driving over the 2011 TL. To further improve operating efficiency, the TL's standard 3.5L V-6 engine receives a host of friction-reduction technologies while a revised air inlet system provides cooler air for both the 3.5L and 3.7L engines.
For 2012, two distinct versions of Acura's performance luxury sedan remain: a 280 horsepower, front-wheel-drive TL along with a powerful 305 hp TL paired with Acura's exclusive Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD™). The performance-minded 6MT model will continue to be offered in the 2012 TL SH-AWD lineup, helping broaden the TL's appeal among luxury performance sedan buyers.
Both the TL and TL SH-AWD™ models offer an available Technology Package which includes the Acura Navigation System with Voice Recognition™, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™ and AcuraLink Real-Time Weather™, and an Acura/ELS Surround® 410-watt Premium Audio System. For 2012, the hard disk drive (HDD) based navigation system increases in size to 60 gigabytes, map coverage is more expansive, USB connection speed is faster, and the full VGA monitor is brighter with even richer colors. Also available is a new Advance Package that incorporates all-new ventilated front seats along with a new blind spot information (BSI) system that alerts the driver of other vehicles that are in close proximity.
Standard on the 2012 TL are new 17x8-inch 7-spoke aluminum wheels with P245/50R17 all-season tires for confident year-round performance. The TL SH-AWD® comes standard with new 18x8-inch 5-spoke aluminum wheels with low-profile P245/45R18 tires for more agile handling. Finally, when equipped with the available Advance Package, the TL comes with 18x8-inch 5-spoke wheels while TL SH-AWD™ is fitted with 19x8-inch split five-spoke aluminum wheels with new performance minded P245/40R19 all-season tires.
Along with every new Acura, the new 2012 TL is covered by a comprehensive 4-year/50,000 mile bumper-to-bumper limited warranty and a 6-year/70,000 miles powertrain limited warranty. Additional benefits of ownership include Acura Total Luxury Care® (TLC®), which provides free 24-hour roadside assistance, concierge service and trip routing.
Acura
Acura offers a full line of technologically advanced performance luxury vehicles through a network of 270 dealers within the United States. The 2011 Acura lineup features six distinctive models including the RL luxury performance sedan, the TL performance luxury sedan, the TSX sports sedan and all-new Sport Wagon, the turbocharged RDX luxury crossover SUV, the award-winning MDX luxury sport utility vehicle and the ZDX four-door sports coupe.

not bad!

Keith what do you think? are you going to trade?

It's a much welcomed changed. I'm ready to get back into a SHAWD, but not sure if it's worth the loss (I'm looking at $5,000). IMO, the advanced package SHOULD HAVE been out from the start.

I don't think there's a negative about this car now! The only thing is the loss I'd take

Lets see how pricing is for the Advanced SHAWD. If it's low enough (I mean, are we really looking at anything more than $2,000?) then I may bite. Lets see.

The front end got major changes. i was hoping I could retro-fit a 2012 TL grill to a 2011 TL. But it looks like the bumper changed and the headlights have changed too (probably so that the grill is aligned with the top of the headlights).

So it looks like I can't just retro-fit the 2012 grill anymore. Doh.

They've done a nice job with the car. I think the revisions should add sales.

But all in all, I prefer the 09-11 styling.

nvm I see that there are also upgraded rims for the advanced pkg, i guess that means we're looking at a $3-4k price bump.

I also like the noise level being lowered and the higher mpg. Heck it's just improvements all around

dam also shorter front overhang?? shorter length? dammmmm!

Overall I like what they did. My biggest overall complaint before was that I thought it only looked good in one color, silver....and maybe white. Hopefully some of these exterior changes will make those darker colors look better. 6speed auto is awesome, and those vented seats are finally here! I wonder if there will still be a body kit? Something a little more aggressive looking would be nice!

What is accounting for the NVH reduction? Active noise cancellation, or additional sound insulation in the wells (like the revised RL)? Why wasn't this mentioned in the press release?

I'm disappointed that the SH-AWD Advance model comes with 19" high performance tires, being a Wisconsinite. I would want the other Advance features along with the availability of the umber interior color (which if memory serves, requires the Advance package). The rougher ride and lack of winter traction are deal killers, unfortunately.

now this is the Acura I know. Looks like they made a big leap in terms of facial changes, car looks really good. The rear is absolutely fantastic, front is great especially with that grille. A-Spec Kit and a good drop is all it needs.

It looks more like the TSX, which is a fairly handsome car. The 09-11 TL was just too over the top with the grille.

However, I am not sure they can recover sales for this generation. At least the TL is in line with most major competitors with 6sp automatic, ventilated seat options. I think the HP is more than enough. Anything above 300hp (SH-AWD) is useless for the average driver.

What they can do is have a murdered out TL in most showrooms, with the blackened head and taillights, the black rims that we saw on the camoed TL, drop it and add a skirt all around. It's the halo-type cars that get people into the showrooms.

My 3G that I bought new has been paid off for going on two years. I am only at 60K miles. I'll keep it for another 40-60K miles. Hopefully the 5G TL will have ironed out any design quirks. I also hope Acura has learned it's lesson. The exterior of a car is vitally important to sales. Each generation should be a design evolution, not something drastic. This is why the MDX, RDX, and TSX (to a lesser extent) are doing well in sales. They are all pretty good looking cars. The RL is ugly. The 4G TL was polarizing. Both had less than acceptable sales.

I want to check out the new Silver, but I see myself ina 2012 Advance AWD some time this year, as soon as I can unload my M37S without getting killed... Although I may check out a Genesis R-Spec to see what that can do.

I woudl love to see the Advance add laser Cruise COntrol, but my initial reaction is if the new Silver is a REAL Silver then I can see me in a AWD Advance before end of calendar year and if they can give me enough for my M37S I may do one in April.

I hear you. Dane-County roads suck donkey-balls and they don't help in the snow either, becasue 19"-wintertires are expensive.

Looks pretty good!

Definitely a little more "TSX-ish" but in a good way; also looks a tad bit more feminine. Hmm... now we have 2 different tones of the 4G TL...

Ithe HPT on the Current AWD I beleive are NOT All Season, the webcast mentioned the 19 tires will have beeter cold/snow drivability, so I have to assume they went with a less agressive tire.

I have 2 3g's now and obviously like the car so to me makes the 4g much more viable. I think Acura can count on moving at least 15,000 more cars annually.
