I'm getting the impression these "refinements" are going to come across as a mild salsa flavor compared to the spicier earlier models. Great for the mass-market (and hopefully sales), but disappointing to those who really appreciate a nice spicy sauce. Aesthetically speaking...

 

I may be the only one here, but i i'm not sure i like where Acura is going with the facelift. I've got a 2010 SH-AWD and i love the edgy, more agressive looking rear end with the quad tips. And i also LOVE the "In your face" grill, or what most of you call it "The Beak". I just think the TL is loosing it's "Ironman" look.......it's looking weak and less muscular. .

 

Looks like you're right. Definitely a "softening" of the look.

Everyday buyers/shoppers will probably like it more. Those of us who like the brash, aggressive, current design, will probably feel the car has been Camry-ized a bit.

That said, the rear view that's been leaked is certainly decent looking.

Man, they should've left the quad tips on it. It definitely makes the car look less aggressive without the quads.

BUT!

I hope they made some good changes to the front of the car. It was simply ugly IMO.

Looking forward to seeing how the new TL looks.

 

That's what I was trying to get across. Acura is emasculating the car for the sake of improving sales and frankly, I can't fault them. However, I personally prefer the more aggressive and visually interesting look of the 2009-2011 models. The rear of this 2012 looks... bland. Fewer lines, less angular motion and they lost the convergence of lines that I really appreciate in my 2010.

I'll save my comments about the grill till we actually see the redesign.

Does the trunk opening seem wider or is that just optical illusion?

Anyway, I like my 2010 TL SH-AWD's "get out of my way" aggressive look. It's that "take it or leave it" styling that I like so much about it... :-)

Yes they are definitely taking away the edginess of the car. You can see it in the lower bumper cover as well as the rear reflectors being thinner and the trunk trim being narrower.
Ya and I hate the no quad tips. Looks like every other car out ther. If you debadge the car, you won't be able to tell what it is?
And someone mentioned Camry-ized? I'd say more like Avalon-ized!

I doubt the trunk opening is changed - most likely only the plastic parts of the bumper - cheap and easy to do. - not as easy to change the actual trunk

 

its like they melted the sharp edges off the rear.

I liked the quad tips better, but I LOVE the new rear bumper. I like that it's a bit more squared off and "clean" looking. More boring, maybe, but a bit more tidy. It's still better than the vanilla sedans in the market, like the Camry.

 

"Acura is emasculating the car for the sake of improving sales" from above....You nailed it...Acura PUNKD out...Before you know it the TL will be as bland as Audi,BMW and the 3rd gen TL...JMHO

 

Damn them for selling out and trying to improve sales.

 

The initial reaction to the bold "in-you-face" redesigned 2009 TL was a loud cry of foul by many who have now grown to like it. I suspect the same will happen with the 2012 redesign. Or not...

 

You can never please everyone. Remember when the new 3 and 5 Series BMW's came out, all the BMW fan boys were up in arms about the changes. Now everyone loves them, same for every car.

Granted the 4G is much more polarizing, but sometimes it's nice to have a car that is different from all the beige out there.

 

i wonder if the bumpers off the 2012 is interchangeable with 2010 and if they have a lip kit for that model.. hmmmmmm ill wait till it comes out before i purchase my lip kit.
