Mod suggestions

Hi y’all. So I’m new to the Acura community. Owned this car for a few weeks and I love it. Compared to the only other car i’ve driven, a 2011 Kia Sportage, this is a blast. I really want to modify the car, the right way and I could use some suggestions. I’m new to modding so I really don’t know much. My main things that I want right now, are some cleaner headlights and taillights, some nicer rims, and a nice exhaust. Nothing loud and raspy, but I want some noise. A nice rumble. It’s a 2011 SH-AWD.

Any help or advice would be appreciated! God bless.

I'd start with a RV6 J pipe. See if that satisfies your need. IMO, it added the *perfect* amount of noise to the car.

Its not emissions compliant. So keep your original J pipe. Don't throw it out or let the muffler shop hang on to it.

Headlights and taillights there really aren't any aftermarket options apart from custom work. If they are just faded you can restore them with wet sanding and a new clear coat. Many kits that you can buy to do this yourself.

Wheels maybe look for used 5x120 bolt pattern see what is out there. Otherwise of course it's up to you what you want to get new

Exhaust like brolando said you can start with a j pipe or for cheap you can replace your mufflers with magnaflow 11225(which is what I have) or borla mufflers etc. Probably don't delete the mufflers (may sound good but loud and drone) and if you want more expensive option they do sell catbacks which sound great.

Ok. I appreciate it. The person I bought this from, his brother deleted the resonator, and it sounds nice. But I wanted a little more noise haha.

thank you! I actually had my headlights cleaned today by my grandpa and they look great. I do wish I could find a better option. I’m not a big fan of the amber on the side. I was thinking about smoking the taillights but I’m unsure. I was also thinking in the future of lowering it once I get the rest of the car looking nicer. Not sure though.

Would you be willing to send a video via PM of your exhaust setup? Curious to hear how it sounds.

I got rv6 hfpc and jpipe before the mufflers so it wouldn't be helpful in knowing what just the mufflers would sound like. Here's a link though there are some depot headlights and taillights but beware of quality of course.

Ok cool. Sorry I have so many questions. I’m new to all this 😂

What does the hfpc, jpipe and muffler do separately and then together?

They are all parts of these cars exhaust that will change the sound and hfpc(high flow pre cats) / jpipe will add some HP due to improving flow around the catalytic converters. See diagram below. The exhaust dumps directly into the two precats on either side of the engine, they connect to the jpipe which has a 3rd primary catalytic converter. Finally it connects to the cat back which is resonators in the middle and mufflers at the end. Changing any one of these components will change the sound. Changing any combination will especially change the sound. If you just want more sound for cheap start with mufflers. I'm sure you can search YouTube for many different setups.

I think the magnaflow mufflers did exactly what you describe more sound a nice little rumble but not too loud at all. If you want possibly louder I hear good things about borla mufflers. Even louder and top end of price you can get a catback system they sound amazing but expensive. Messing with pre cats probably you don't want to consider that. The jpipe which deletes the 3rd catalytic converter will add a little bit of sound especially at higher rpm and some HP too for more money than mufflers but less than a cat back.

Ok, thank you for that explanation. That makes sense. So the seller’s brother already deleted the resonator. It has a little sound but I want more. You think the deleted res plus the magma flow muffler is a good combo for now? i just don’t want something raspy and annoying.

I don't know as it really is experimentation to get the sound that you like. I would assume it could be fine especially if it sounds alright now but if it is annoying and raspy it definitely won't be because of the mufflers and you could always add resonators back on.

This one is not performance related but makes a huge difference at night. Welcome to the Acura forums! TIP: Drill a small hole then counter sink it to make it look nice.

I started with the resonator delete and was happy with the sound. I wanted a bit more power so I got the RV6 j pipe installed when I installed the splitter kit. The exhaust note definitely got louder that my wife thinks it's too loud. There is no drone when you ease off the pedal, which is tolerable with two young sons sitting in the back. With the resonator delete, j pipe and ktuner installed, the exhaust tone is louder when I take off the line compared to my wife's MDX Type S in sport plus mode. It isn't raspy and has a nice, smooth sound when I step on the pedal so I'm quite happy with it as if I got an exhaust or aftermarket muffler, I think it would a bit too loud for me and as you get older, the drone sure does annoy you more. I use to have a QX56 with a magnaflow exhaust and the drone was crazy.
