Bug Splatters!

What do you guys use to remove the bugs that splatter on your front bumper without scratching/swirling the paint?

Clay bar with a micro fiber cloth works pretty good for me. I've also used Griot's Garage "Bug Off" which you need to apply first (after cleaning) as it will allow you to just wash them off easier the next time.

If there is a good coat of wax on the bumper, the bug stuff should wash right off!

Ancient chinesse secret..

Use a dryer sheet.

So use a fresh dryer sheet in your soapy bucket to wash the car and use that. It will wipe them right off without much rubbing.

I just used it on my 2 week old pearl white last night..worked great as usual.
Ive been using this method for years. And in Florida we have these things called love bugs. Your car can be covered within a 20 min dive like this in certain area during certain times.

Love the dryer sheet idea; I'll have to try that
I've been using Nu-Finish, polish, for years, on all my cars
Takes the bugs off flawlessly, & leaves a nice lustre, with little effort

+1. I keep a few in my trunk for in-between treatment on longer trips. Haven't found anything that works better!

Actually take the wet/soapy dryer sheet and wipe your car, or you mean just put a sheet in your bucket and that does something to the soapy mixture?

No .. use it like a wash rag..but make sure it is wet and soapy before you rub the car with it.

I don't know how safe the drier sheet method is, but if it works go for it!

I use the soak method. Take some old blankets/towels and soak them in water and then apply ontop of the bugs for a few hours. It'd be best to soak them with a little bit of car soap added in. This way the bugs will rehydrate and be easier to remove. Follow up with a good wash and you'll be fine. For bugs that are stuck on really well, try using bug/tar remover! If that doesn't work, claybars work well, but will require a good amount of elbow grease!

Also check in our wash and wax section for more tips and tricks! As well there is some great info on washing and waxing!

Thanks guys, I'll try some of these ideas. I already have some perm bug splatter. I dont know if I was to repaint the bumper, its not that bad.

I've read about the dryer sheet somewhere and I heard that it messes with the finish of the paint. Is this true?

First time I've heard of the dryer sheet! I'll give it a try next time but I always keep the front facing parts (bumper, side mirror, lights, etc.) well waxed. No matter how bad the bug splatters are they come off pretty easy. I have yet to need Bug & Tar remover yet.

Any of you guys use denatured alcohol/mineral spirits? When they put the clear bra on my 3G, that's what they used to clean it. Didn't seem to damage anything, either. But I've also read that prolonged use of it could fade or fog a finish? I'm not sure.

I applied a 3-stage wax (the brand is Mothers I think) after getting the car... and the bugs come right off with no problems most of the time.

After a long drive though I sometimes will go to a car wash and pressure wash the bugs off the front. Be sure to rinse only since the soap used at the self-serve car washes are usually low-quality.
