Advice on whether its totaled....and replacement

Ok, so my wife in Walgreens, and came back to a car laying on the left side of the hood. She was the end of a 4 car collision, where one car hit the second car...when then went nuts and hit one parked car and landed on ours.

Fun.

The car may be totaled, and was curious about a immaculate (about 45k mileage) 09 TL-AWD Tech cost if its totaled. What price should I be fighting for? I still have 9 payments left on the car (of 626 a month). I went and looked at the blue book for it and came away with low 20's for it. I just put new tires on the damn thing and will do what I can to factor that in as well as fighting for genuine parts. Car is being flat-bedded to the adjustor in Mobile (USAA) who will truely assess the extend of the damage...

Kinda sucks to take care of her to see her in this shape.

My opinion - After just getting mine back froom the body shop after being "accordioned", your car is far from being totalled. Unless there is extensive engine damage, which based on the first picture there doesn't appear to be heavy damage, your gonna be far from being totalled.

An idiot, driving a Honda Accord coupe, was texting and nailed me at about 30mph. Needless to say I was pushed into the front vehicle (which had a spare tire mount) and my car had $13K worth of damage. You damage is nowhere near what I had!

Gotta say - after being hit as hard as I was, no frame damage and no trunk damage either (thank god). Did get a brand new exhaust because of the accident - insurance paid for it. I was hit so hard the the left muffler broke at the weld. Happy to get a new exhaust - unibody pipe cost $900 just for the part!

Good to hear... when I was describing the damage to USAA, they said that it MAY be...so I'm just planning for the worst in case it is when they see underneath the sheet metal.

Glad to hear yours turned out ok....

80% value of the car for repairs would equal about $16-18K in repairs to total it- based on how it looks, it seems primarily cosmetic, so I doubt a total (unless there's suspension damage, which is doubtful). It likely can be brought back to like new condition with new parts.

Agreed. Nowhere near totaled. Based on pictures, I'd guess about $5k in damage though.

I'm going to guess $8000 in damage unless we're doing Price Is Right style, then I'm going in at $5001.

Glad you and your wife are okay!!

Looks like 7 to 9k in damage. Defiantly will be a lot of paint work, the blend will start at the passenger door and wrap around to the driver side door.

Where in FL are you?

I appreciate all the replies. With USAA saying it may be totaled...I figured they knew something I didn't. Didn't seem like 15k damage myself. Wouldve hated to get a new car payment again.... And my 2000 Prelude is still going strong. Paid cars are the best cars. DnD...I'm in the Fort Walton Beach area.

Another question I have is getting the at fault company to pay for the extra depreciation of the car due to the collision. Anyone heard of it?

Yes, it's called a "Diminished Value Claim". It will be paid by the at-fault party's insurance company.

Glad that nobody was hurt. And...you can't do any better than USAA. I've been with them for 43 years.

Who determines (or how) the amount of the diminished value?

Recommend you consult with USAA on the best way to proceed. Our 2009 CRV was T-boned a couple years ago and the at-fault party's insurance company hired an "independent" appraiser. After some back and forth negotiation the process worked quite well. In our case we compared the private sale Kelly Blue Book value with what Carmax and a Honda dealer offered us after the repairs were finished.

Yes, because Clearly clear bras are meant to protect your car from another car landing ontop of it

OP: Like everyone else is saying, itll be repaired. Not enough damage to write it off, thankfully your wife wasn't in the car to go through all that.

^^ Potmilkz was being sarcastic and funny. I am surprised no one has posted the "Don't worry, that can buff right out" comment yet.

Sorry to see that damage happen to your car. Glad to hear your wife wasn't in the car and is ok. That's a pretty good story though, you don't see that kind of accident too often.

USAA is a great company. Good luck and may the force be with you.
