2025 MDX Type S System Update Error
2025 MDX Type S System Update Error
Hey everybody. Just traded in my 2023 RDX A-spec Advance for a 2025 MDX type S and I am loving it except for one thing. I can't do any system updates. Every time I try it I get error message "Update is Unavailable/ Code S404" and a try again later message. Any suggestions on what may be the issue or what else I should try?
Thanks!
Thanks!
I'd suggest adding it to a list to ask your dealer at next oilchange.
Alternatively, post your software version mumber and steps that cause the message. Other 25 owners might be able to see if they see the same.

I get the same error message too. Were you able to get yours fixed. I am the Acura dealership now having them look at it
Does anyone have a 2025 Acura MDX that can successfully perform a software update without receiving this error? It would go a long way to know the answer to this as then those of that have the error can pressure the dealership for a fix. If you can confirm please let us all know! Thanks

I came across this in the other MDX Owners forum.
"My dealer said: Updating the 2025s will all show the Code S404 unless there is an update that needs to be installed. Acura does not currently have a change for that. At some point it will say “No Updates Needed”, so Code S404 is normal."

I purchased a brand new 2025 Acura MDX Advanced in June as soon as the vehicle released this year. But the vehicle kept throwing the error code TT04(System update is unavailable, see you dealer) on dashboard as well as LCD Screen. So I took the vehicle to the dealership in July, 2024 and they told us the TCU has a problem (Telematic unit malfucntion)so they replaced it and then we had another error code 'S500-Try again later.' The service tech told us this is the caused by an underdeveloped server responsible for displaying whether software update available or not for infotainmnet unit, that is currently under investigation by the manufactuers. The dealership service tech told me they can't fix this issue since it is beyond what they can handle as a mechanic. Not too long after, the error code had changed from S500 to S404(message : Try again later. If the error continues, have your vehicle checked by the dealer'). and then finally throw the same code(TT04) again that we had at the beginning of this issue. So we took our vehicle to the different dealership this time to see what they say. They told us they update the computer and now it shows S404. Basically the system update has never fixed and nobody knows how to fix this issue. I spoke with Honda Customer relations dept as well but they keep saything 'they are revewing the problem' and that is it. No one knows the answer or solution for this issue except they seems aware of this issue for a while. I don't know why Honda don't do a recall for this. It could affect the value of the vehicle significantly when we want to sell our car if this error keep popping up. Please share with me if you have any suggestion or solution for this issue. Thank you.
Sadly, I am having this same issue with the "updated required see dealer" warning in my '25 MDX Advance. I now feel like I have another Volvo with tech issues and I am only a few months into this vehicle.
I brought to the dealer who said it is a corporate issue and like others said, corporate then says the dealer will take care of this. I have escalated at corporate since there is nothing the dealer can fix and I REFUSE to have a new car that has "warming lights" coming up on my dashboard.
If anyone else has solved this issue, please let me know, but I will die on the hill of getting this fixed or just handing the car back to the dealer with lemon law if it is not resolved after I bring it back 2 more times and it remains unfixed.

Same issue on 2025 Acura
have a new 2025 Acura RDX advance and the navigation map is version 2023.09.25. I have been unable to update the system connecting with WiFi or connecting to the website directed to.spent hours and money on new usb drives when the system should have been updated to the year I bought it. It’s a brand new 2025 vehicle and the navigation system is from 2023. What a crock of shit !,!!!
The 2025 RDX uses the old navigation.com vendor that Honda has used since 2000. Go to acuranavi.navigation.com and buy a 32gb usb stick (no smaller/no larger) for the update. You can see the posts in the RDX sub forums for more details.
The 2025 MDX switched map vendors to Google. They update maps in the background without telling you. So MDX maps stay ip to date pretty much all the time. Same with software usually.
The 25mdx original update error reported in this thread seems to have been fixed. No reports since March, and I have no errors on my 25mdx loaner. Now it says no updates available, but that is probably because it dis a background update without notice to keep current.

I've had the car for a month. I've tried the software update a couple of times and have never seen an error message, just "no update available".
I much prefer the built-in Google Maps to the Android Auto version. No icea why Google makes the text/icons/boxes so damn large in the Android Auto version. The only benefit the Android Auto version has is the ability to make Maps fullscreen.
The trade-offs between the Google built-in apps and Android Auto are curious. Native Google Maps is better but can't use the full screen. I can run Youtube Music as an app without launching Android Auto, but then I get no music info in the HUD or the driver's display.
We have had the 2025 MDX Advance for almost a year now. Same issues, system won’t update error messages and CarPlay does not work properly. Have worked through local dealer having multiple hardware items replaced and spent about 2 months on calls with Corporate, doing questionnaires and providing tons of info with no resolution. They basically say they are aware and working on it, but offer no solution options. I agree with you that I don’t want a $70k new car with error messages and obvious technology defects.
Were you able to get resolution? I am considering going through the Honda Arbitration process, but would love to know if anyone has done this with any success.
Thanks
