MDX Type S Reservation List
I see that US dealers are taking a $500 reservation deposit. No such luck in Canada. Who here has place a deposit?

I reserved an MDX Type-S Advance at Bobby Rahal Acura. They told me that I was 6th in line and they expect to receive 6 Type-S's between now and June 2022. However, I reserved a Liquid Metal Carbon exterior with an Ebony interior which is not an option for the early rollout. My sales rep said they are getting very little info from Acura and really with the current issues, nothing is guaranteed. So who knows, I may be waiting longer or jump to the front based on what they receive and when they receive it. I'm trading in a 2019 RDX A-Spec with less than 30K miles, too. Wish I could sell it now and wait, but I'm not that much of a gambler, lol.

I'm on the order list with my dealer in NJ too, taking 1 of the 4 first orders they have in queue, and they checked it "Presold" and added my name in the Acura Net system.
No other updates, but I'm hoping it all gets delayed as I have other cars to enjoy and want to see test drive reviews first. Didn't need to do the Acura.com deposit, just asked my dealer when I was buying my TLX Type-S, they showed me the order #'s sitting in Acura's system with no ETA's, and put my name next to which color one I wanted.

Are the MDX Type-S gonna be produced in limited quantities also, just like the 2021 TLX Type-S which was limited to 2,000 units in the US and 250 units in Canada ?

The last update I heard was Jan/Feb delivery for the first 500 ordered off of the pre-order website, which was the limited int/ext colors and required the $500 down.
Apparently dealer would get a build date around 21 days ahead of delivery as is typical for special orders.
Seems any delivery of these first ones this year is slipping away. Additional ordering with all color combos was to open in March. This could be stale info by now though... There is no official msrp yet either so there is that.

I think to get on the "official" pre-orders you had to reserve via the Acura reservation site. The specific vehicle will ship with your name on it
Otherwise it is just the dealer and their word that you have dibs, and they will likely shop yours around for the highest market adjustment.

Should I keep waiting for the MDX Type S?
I did reserve at two local dealerships via Acura.com reserve. I still haven’t received any info on when they’ll be delivered. I called the dealerships and they also don’t know and were guessing it might be some time in January or February. I sold my car last month and was in process of buying an MDX A-Spec, had one reserved until the Type S news came out. It’s been tough to share one car at home with the Mrs… as the days go on I’m growing more anxious :/ I’m really considering whether I should bow out of waiting for the Type S and just settle for the A-Spec? With the chip shortage craze and all should I make the safer bet?

My dealer rep, in southcentral PA, said he expected/hoped the prices would be around $65k for Type S and $70k for the Type S Advance. But, that was literally just his best guess, with no insider knowledge, that he would divulge, at least - which falls in line with my expectations. However, with the market, supply chain issues, etc., who knows? Personally, if it's too pricey, I'll just keep my 2019 RDX A-Spec wait for the electric MDX in a few years.
I've also reserved an F-150 Lightning, so whichever company is the first to allow me actually order my vehicle will get my business; the other will have to wait a year or so for me to clear up the payment room, lol. That said, I'm guessing it will be quite some time until I can order the F-150 as I'm guessing that I'm somewhere between 120K-130K in line - based on press releases and when I placed my reservation, haha.

If at US$ 70k, it will be in the price range of a base 335hp Porsche Cayenne.

Got a call from my dealer today and they stated my Type S should be here towards the end of January. I was also provided the price.
Acura MDX Typs S Advance
MSRP: $73,595.00
Out the Door: $76,600
This is a bit more than I was expecting. Was really hoping MSRP was going to be $70k to $71k.
Anyone else get a call?

The local Hyundai dealership wanted around the same price $73-75k for a loaded GV80 when I was shopping them.
The fact that the Hyundai dealership reminded me of a 3rd world country or war zone and the thought of having to deal with them/their service, totally made me re-valuate the value Acura brought to the table.
$73k is higher than I had hoped but in the end, imo still a decent/solid value at this level.
(Love the Germans but never again (I've said that like 4 times this time I mean it). Lexus is too dated and the looks are too polarizing for me, so that pretty much removes all other class competition)

A little bird told me that MDX Type S Demo vehicles will start to arrive at dealers this week..., At least in SoCal.
That would mean that media reviewers should start getting access with reviews written and released, likely before the new year. I wonder what they'll say ..

This YouTube
was suggested to me, it's a good one. Although the price is a bit higher than I expected, it's inline with the competition, plus my dealership has amazing customer service.
I have yet to receive a call about my reservation, but I'm not expecting a call until after the initial rollout since I picked a color combo that wasn't offered in the initial rollout.

Similar bird in northern NJ contacted me today and said they would have their Type S dealer demo by the end of the month… at least some progress!
Random- contacted another local NJ dealer today fishing for info. They had none, but asked if I wanted to pre-order. I played along… this particular dealer wanted a $5,000, NON refundable deposit!
Ha!

Hey all! Did anyone ask their dealer about add on accessories being installed from the factory? I don’t know if it’s just the dealers near me, but they are only allowing me to order the base Type-s or Advance Type-s and all accessories will be installed by dealer when car arrives. The sales rep did manage to send me the price breakdown of the installations+parts price. The process I can tell you is night and day compared to when I got my Audi S4.
I e-mail about 4 reps and only 1 got back to me, and they sidestep my question about refundable deposit. Guessing its non-refundable as EchoBrian said.
Not really happy about the price or the service. Thinking about getting the Q7 at this point, since everything will be the way I want it when it arrives.
Here is the link for the PDF of the installation on the accessories in case anyone was wondering like I was.

In CA, it is not legal to make a deposit non-refundable due to consumer protection laws. By law has to be totally refundable. Yay for states with solid consumer protection laws, at least we get something useful for the sunshine taxes....
Was not aware that there was such a thing as factory installed accessories. Local dealer makes you buy their (imo overpriced) accessories as part of the deal.
Mission Viejo in SoCal/OC makes you pay for LowJack of all things (yes please jack into my electrical system on a brand new car) - no exceptions.
Another dealer makes you buy their Ceramic coating, some crazy door handle scratch protecter and a cargo cover - at least somewhat useful if not overpriced.
Also - Costco names a local Acura dealer as well. They had a 15% off coupon for accessories so that could come in useful at some point. (it expired 12/1 but would expect another coupon at some point)

Thanks for sharing the Installed price list!
I have a Blk/Blk Type S on order, and was told that it is “slated to be built 1/20, with delivery 2/3.” Same comment as to accessories - coming stock.
Have a decent setup with my dealer - I put $500 down (refundable) - but we agreed to apply it to either the Type S or an Advanced.
I am genuinely not sure what to do. One hand says get the S, it will be bada$$ and I will love driving it… The other says, if your going to spend more then $70k on a car to give to your wife in 18mo (1 car family, live in city for now) then getting the more “family” oriented model (with 360*, Auto rear hatch, HUD) and saving the cash is the smarter choice.
Apparently my dealer will have a TypeS demo at the EOM, but I feel like I may be leaning away anyway…

The rare, over valued Type-S that dealers will mark up over MSRP and the salesman won't let you even touch until you sign. Tired of this, I can walk into a Porsche dealer and they throw me the keys of a vehicle worth almost twice as much and are willing to give you a discount without even blinking an eye, but no, not Acura, never for the super duper ultra deluxe Type-S. The Type-S should be treated no different than any other trim level, plenty on the lots and have the same discounts apply just like any Acura.

Yes it will be more rare than a Bugatti and they will use the Type S as a poster child of the brand even though nobody will be able to get one at a reasonable price.

I've had an Acura dealer let me take a car for the weekend, but before covid and current supply/demand mismatch. These are not out yet and the climate is such that they probably won't have them sitting on the lot for long or at all.
Haven't been to a Porsche dealer lately so can't comment on how they are these days. I would think they are short on stock and high on demand too, no? My last Porsche experience 2 yrs ago was no dealing on MSRP either, but my sample size is admittedly small. Capitalism at its finest.

Audi, Infiniti and BMW are the ones on top of my head I know that installs accessories out of the factory. Acura is disappointing for having it on their website leading to think that they do. Everything they list hell I can install them myself, but the one thing I wanted them to do from the factory which makes more sense is the black out badges.
