I don't think we will hear any more additional news about the Type-S MDX until close to summer. I figure Acura will see how well the +22 MDX is received and make minor tweaks to the Type-S MDX if anything pops up TSB wise before official launch (don't know when that will be).

No one has driven the TLX Type-S yet, which is expected to be out soon in spring. Let alone the MDX Type-S that won't come out until at least 6 months after the regular MDX becomes available.

What is your source for the "at least 6 months after the regular MDX becomes available?" "at least" 6 months would mean mid august?

I have a deposit down for the first 2022 Type S that comes in to my local dealer and they were saying late spring/early summer. (I'm willing to concede they may be being overly optimistic to not turn me away) but I'd be really disappointed if the Type S isn't going to be around until Mid August. I'm purchasing the Type S for a birthday gift for my fiance and if it doesn't come in til August I'm going to have to come up with a plan B for her birthday (late spring). I was planning to stall for a few weeks telling her her gift was "backordered" but stalling 3 months isn't going to be feasible.

ON ANOTHER TOPIC:

Does anyone know what colors will be available for the Type S? She likes white. (Platinum White Pearl)

A lot of media outlets were reporting late summer for the Type S, so you'll probably need a plan B.

From the Honda news release dated Dec 2020, it mentioned that the MDX Type-S was set to arrive in late Summer 2021. Remember that late Summer 2021 is the proposed arrival date, and according to the past history of Honda/Acura product releases, it is almost guarantee that the Type-S will only come out later (never earlier) than the original target date.

Using the 2G TLX as a reference, the regular TLX was available in Sept 2020 and the proposed Type-S arrival date is Spring 2021. 5 months have gone by already and the Type-S is still in the dark. Yesterday, one fellow member, in the 2G TLX forum, said that his dealership told him the TLX-S would arrive in May/June, which may or may not be true.

So at least 6 months in between the regular and the Type-S is not unreasonable for this new MDX, using bits and pieces of information provided by Acura.

I strongly recommend that you should work on a "plan B", because you will need it.

Does anyone know if the MDX Type S will be de-contented vs the Advance model? I mean missing features like 360 cam or HUD, like they were missing the TLX Type S.

I don't think so. We already know it will have an even more powerful 1000 watt ELS system and possibly quilted massaging seats. This flagship will not be de-contented!

..... and will therefore also carry a much more expensive price tag when compared to de-contented TLX-S vs the TLX-Advance.

Type-S vs. Advance

Hello from Nevada! Newbie to AcuraZine... Honda family for decades...
Holding my breath to see what features will be missing on the Type-S compared to the Advanced model before buying my first "luxury" SUV!
Why? TLX Advance vs. Type-S.

Welcome to the forum! I think we are waiting until late summer for the Type S to come out. Just sit tight and you'll find latest news here, I'm sure!

Go to the Canadian site here:

https://www.acura.ca/en/future-vehicles/tlx-type-s

Scroll down a bit and you'll see the color combos possible. I'd imagine it's the same color combos for the US models.

Awesome, thanks for the link. Looks like they have most colors for the TLX Type S. Seems logical that would follow for the MDX

Even if it comes out late summer, I would wager it will be MSRP-only pricing for a while until everyone who badly wanted one buys it.

Fine with me. I'm not worried about paying market price. I just make sure I don't get played

I was watching AoA review of 6cyl X5. Review said 0-60 in 5 sec (5.3 as per BMW) for a 4900 lb vehicle with 335 hp engine. I hope MDX type S can beat this time as it should be lighter by couple of hundred pounds.

If it can do that, it will be in line with XC90 T8, GLE580/GLE53 and Q7 with 55TFSI.

In this review as well as MDX review, i heard Alex saying he prefers driving feel of MDX over 6 cyl X5. I hope Acura improves on that driving feel in Type S as it wont have power to beat performance numbers of X5m50i or SQ7 etc.

This information is coming from a reliable source.

TYPE S was supposed to be out by Easter 2021. However, Honda/Acura delayed it due to the current market situation. It's 90-95% confirmed that it will hit the dealers at the end of May, beginning June depending on the state and province. Technically, it will be a summer release (late spring). And Acura is aiming for end of August, beginning September for MDX TYPE S release. Their product map is delayed by 2months. There is no news about the ILX replacement, although the goal was to have some sort of press release by summer 2021.

I cannot share the link but it's not my dealer and sales rep. Promise!

Does anyone know if or when US dealers will have pricing on the Type S?

I have a deposit down on the Type S but haven't talked price with the dealer yet. I want to finalize price now so if we can't agree on price I can get in line/get a deposit down at another dealer asap.

This is all we know from the official site:

https://www.acura.com/future-vehicles/tlx-type-s

"TLX Type S arriving late May 2021 well-equipped in the low $50,000s."

I'd say give it another month when the media has it in their hands and starts writing about the car.

Unfortunately, if Acura doesn't release the price list to the dealers, there is nothing that the dealers can do to finalize the price.

Judging from the release-date/price-list information release progress for the TLX Type-S, it will still be a long, long time before we will see any meaningful information for the MDX Type-S.

All we can do is to sit and wait. Nothing more.

Sorry about my previous post. Too many Type S threads and my mind was on the TLX Type S. I'm sure Acura has all their energy and resources devoted to a successful TLX Type S launch before they even think about the MDX Type S.

I don't know when this was updated but it appears the Orchid interior and the Tiger Eye Pearl paintjob exclusive to the TLX Type S has also made its way to the MDX Type S.

It sounds like you want a Type S quickly? I would assume the price will be MSRP. If your dealer is unscrupulous, they will mark up even more.

As seems to be typical of information on the type S... This article states but "mid summer" and "end of summer" for when the Type S will be available.

Exclamation Cause for Concern ?

I just saw a few youtube videos about the TLX type s and they were disconcerting...

The TLX type S looks and sounds Awesome, BUT...

The TLX type S will not have fog lights, no heated steering wheel and no heads-up display (HUD).

I hope the MDX type S will have all these features !!

I thought the Type S is supposed to be better and higher trim level than the Advanced trim. I don't know why Acura got rid of the heated steering wheel and the HUD. Also who knows what other features Acura got rid of from the TLX advance package in the TLX type S. The fog lights, I understand, because the tlx type S needs extra cooling.

From what I can speculate, the MDX type S will hopefully have a flat bottom steering wheel and the "Type S" logo embossed on the front head rests, just like the TLX type S.

Since, the MDX is now Acura's flagship model. I hope the MDX type S doesn't lose any features from the Advance trim like the extra ambient lighting strips.

The TLX Type S was reported to be built on top of the A-Spec trim, not the Advance trim, so fittingly it doesn't have any of the Advance features like the HUD, 360 camera, etc.

No big deal. On the TLX and naturally the Type-S, both the fog lights and the heated steering wheel can be ordered as dealer installed options. So HUD is the only option that the TLX-S cannot have.

Are you sure the fog lights can be ordered? I think there are active cooling vents in that location now on the Type S.
