Type-S
I just saw a few youtube videos about the TLX type s and they were disconcerting...
The TLX type S looks and sounds Awesome, BUT...
The TLX type S will not have fog lights, no heated steering wheel and no heads-up display (HUD).
I hope the MDX type S will have all these features !!
I thought the Type S is supposed to be better and higher trim level than the Advanced trim. I don't know why Acura got rid of the heated steering wheel and the HUD. Also who knows what other features Acura got rid of from the TLX advance package in the TLX type S. The fog lights, I understand, because the tlx type S needs extra cooling.
From what I can speculate, the MDX type S will hopefully have a flat bottom steering wheel and the "Type S" logo embossed on the front head rests, just like the TLX type S.
Since, the MDX is now Acura's flagship model. I hope the MDX type S doesn't lose any features from the Advance trim
like the extra ambient lighting strips.

Acura did it right with MDX Type S. MDX Type S is getting adaptive suspension, 21 way quilted seats with massagers and 1000 wattt stereo not available on any other trim. Strong possibility it also gets air suspension and there are other features I'm sure. It will be a real flagship!
I noticed they removed the performance air suspension from the website, but I hope that was just so they could save something for reveal. If they stay on schedule, it should be revealed next month.
Nothing. There is zero update on the MDX Type-S. Nothing from Acura. Nothing from the dealers. Nothing from the press. Nothing from secret leaks. Absolutely nothing at all.
We can only sit and wait .... and wait ..... and wait .......

I texted with my salesman at the dealership today and he said:
Acura has released the TLX type S which is due to come out mid July. The MDX I assume would follow close behind. No launch date as of now. We anticipate keeping the factory open. They are not having any trouble getting the processors for the cars. We now have over 14 customers waiting for the MDX Type S
My best guess is Acura will focus on high demand trims of MDX/RDX/TLX, for the foreseeable future, and niche products like the S will get pushed out further. I'm sure some will trickle in summer, to keep the buzz alive, but most consumers are not going to get their hands on it anytime soon.

Not a ton of confirmed info, but at least we know it's still coming out 2021

j/k... thanks for sharing.
I second this. Especially coming from car salesmen. I've yet to meet one who knows more than me about product he's selling. I always end up schooling them. They get training on how to push gimmicks and get soccer moms in the car. They're not car enthusiasts. They rarely drive brand they sell. Most hop from one manufacturer to another.
Nothing we don't already know:

After watching a bunch of videos about the TLX type-S, I kinda remember one person saying that the new turbo engine doesn't have any VTEC !
Which I find odd. If true, I can't believe that Acura's Type-S engine is single turbo, twin scroll DOHC (Dual Overhead Cam) engine with NO V-Tec ??
Huh ??
Maybe Acura will add VTEC to the turbo engine for the MMC (Mid-Model Change) for the TLX & MDX type-S in 2-3 years
I remember, back in the day, when Acura added VTEC not only to the intake side but also the exhaust side of the J35 engine. And that was a BFD (Big F*cking Deal) back in the day !
I might be wrong, but can someone confirm ??
Back then, Honda/Acura was at least 5 years behind in implementing DI on its V6 engines, when all other major automakers had been using DI engine technology for years. Finally, DI did come on V6 engines, but with much fanfare, because Honda kept telling us that it was developing a brand new V6 engine family with much increased output power. Eventually, the new Honda V6 engine was released, but it was no new V6 engine family. It was the same old 3.5L J-series V6, just with added DI technology.
Likewise for gasoline DIrect Injection (DI) technology for Honda/Acura V6 too.

At this point, I can't imagine we're going to see much more investment in a whole new engine family/architecture, not with everything moving to EVs. VW already said they're no longer investing in ICE, Volvo is pretty much done with ICE, and I suspect other manufacturers are already moving in that direction, even if they haven't publicly announced it yet.

I last texted with the dealer on June 16th. He said the TLX type S had been released with July deliveries and he expected the Type S to come out "close behind" but no launch date as of June 16th. I usually bug my salesman about once a month, so I'm due to text him again in the next week or so.
