TPMS question

If you mount new wheels and tires without the sensor(s) onto a TPMS-equipped TL, would the car freak out? Im just curious.

The TPMS light stays on and the display will say TPMS error. Other than that no big deal.

Yea i bought wheels and totally forgot about the TPMS sensors...I ran the car w.out them for about 2 months and that TPMS error would come the MID and u just push the reset button and it just shows a "TPMS" error on the dash...When i switched back everything was normal. . . However i must say it grew to be really annoying!

yea i think you can, they just have to change the valve stem of the new tire with that of the stock set.

Actually, it's not that simple. It depends on the wheel design. If you notice the standard TL wheels look different between 05 and 06 when the sensors are added. It's to clear the sensors...

Very few aftermarket rims will have adequate clearance for the sensors, unfortunately. (I found that out, when shopping for rims )

At least this is the case with the nicer rims anyways. You have to ask the wheel-shop if it will clear the sensors. It depends on the design of the wheel where the stem would go. In my case, almost none of the Volk and Work wheels fit the sensors.

Strap them in. I know HRE provides bands to strap the TPMS in. You can may your own as well:
