Problem checking tire pressure.

Hey guys, I was checking my tire pressure today. I used a simple tire gauge that i got from Pep Boys. I could check the pressure on 3 of my tires, but when i got to the driver side rear tire, it didn't work. Does anybody know what could be wrong? I filled the tire up with air last week and checked the tire pressure and it read approx 32 psi, but today when I tired checking it, it didn't even work.

does tire look low or flat? Cause you may not have enough pressure to register on guage - but I would think you would notice that. When you try and take the pressure, are you getting a good seal with the guage on the valve stem on that last tire? (do you hear air leaking out as you try and take the pressure reading?)

yeah, i'm hearing air leaking out as i try to take the pressure. I pressed firmly too. The tire does look a little low as well.

I just took my car to a local tire shop and the problem is fixed. There was a nail in the tire, which was causing a slow leak. The guy patched it up and it should be good now=)

Cool - well, not cool you got a nail, but cool you figured it out. Also, some guages will fit the valve stems better than others too - mine has like a recessed lip - so the valve sits deep into it - get a better seal. Newton MA? Went to school at NU - loved it up there.

Also, when you check your tire pressure, make sure the gauge part that slides in and out is pointed UPWARD. This makes the gauge work against the force of gravity and gives the true tire pressure.

I love this thread! This is the kind of real world, practical advice that we need to share on this type of forum. "If your tire pressure gauge reads zero, your tire may be flat." You might want to consider getting a tire pressure monitoring system.
