Let's talk about air suspension

After waring out my quest and search for a cost effective but reliable way of air suspension...I am having trouble grasping the fact that there has been no clear thread on multiple bag set ups as I am sure there are certain ways to do this and not to do this.

There are kits out there by ksport, airrunner, and airrex that cost upwards of $2500-$3700. (source: bagriders.com) I've seen friends build kits for $1500 for other makes and models.

Looking at air struts alone by airrex and ksport cost $2100 without the air kit. For our generation, I haven't seen anyone use the uas bag over coilover set up yet.

What would be an ideal coilover to do this set up with? Advantage of ksport, tein street advanced, isc, f&f or bc racing coilovers with uas bags? Aerosport carries nice uas bag applications which can range from $80-$200 a bag. I am thinking since the rear suspension is a shock/strut/spring assembly, this has something to do with why this method isn't practicle for us. Brackets alone are another story. Do the UAS Bags spin and float freely? Any detailed clarification is welcome.

I know there has to be a way to do this under $2000. Just need a little help. Thanks in advance!

why reinvent the wheel? go with what works. air is expensive especially on a car that isnt that common to air. its not an s10.

there is a couple people on here running air search their threads and go with what works. just my opinion...

Here in NYC i see bagged TL's and Accords everyday, it has become very common specially with 4G TL's and the new 9th gen accords.

Heres a few cars in my hood using accuair, its so convenient to have bags especially with how bad the roads are out here but then again these guys can easily dish out 4k for suspension... i can't, the $800 i spent on my k sport coil overs felt like it was a lot so i can't even imagine bags.

I searched these threads and found that jay was running a full ksport kit. Arm and a leg just for air struts alone. There aren't any shortcuts that other cars get to enjoy for bags so ill end up saving and sucking it up and drop $3100 for the full kit. Thanks guys. You gotta pay to play

I'm in the same boat as you, I have tein street advanced Coilovers and was hoping I could just use uas bags over them but I don't think they are low enough and don't wanna worry about a floating bag spinning around especially with Lines connected to it. Just spells disaster

I know someone got an air runner kit for the 7th gen accords which are way cheaper but what fabrications are needed to be made?

okay so i just sold a complete used airrex/accuair kit for 3100 used.

air suspension is expensive. if you go the cheap route and buy cheap suspension your car will ride like shit. Airrex Bags new are 2100. There are a few new companies called Air Tek and Airforce that make Struts for our cars but thats 1800 new. I dont know of anyone running UAS bags.

but along with Suspension you need managment. a new cheap accuair e-level managment system can be bought new for about 2200. the best accuair for about 3000..and you can usually piece together a used kit for around 1600 if you have time.

air ride is expensive, but you have to pay to play!

I'm running Air Force bags and they ride amazing (36-way adjustable). I'm very happy with them. As far as bag-over-coilovers go, I know a lot of the guys in the air forums run Koni Yellows paired with Air Lift bags (or another similar brand). When you try to Frankenstein up a kit with coilovers, you're in for a lot of custom fabrication (welding is involved) and you'll end up with questionable ride quality. I don't even know if they make a bag-only kit for the TL, but if you can find a way to do it, I would use Koni Yellow shocks and NOT coilover shocks. The only downside to running the Koni Yellows is that you won't have as much height adjustment. You will only be able to raise/lower the car as much as the bag will allow when it's inflated/deflated. With a coilover shock, you will be able to adjust the lower collar to get the car even lower. Do more research, there are tons of options for what you want to do.

I ran UAS bags over my 36 way D2 coilovers on my M45. Accuair VU4 management and Zaetech's touch box wireless controller. No issues with UAS bags and the D2 coilovers. I ran 1/2" lines for a fast bag setup. I have dakota digital air gauges, 7 way switch box, and dual compressors. I sourced my kit for around 2500 and its exactly what I wanted and needed. Wouldn't have done it any other way.

Edit: Universal Air builds the brackets for the bags for your coilover setup. Great people who never tried to sell me something I didn't need.

I wish more people knew what it takes to properly tune a bag setup for performance.

The same way you tune a coilover setup.

^Little more math involved. You should know this.

Curious, what size lines are you using / came with your kit?

I got my bags dialed in almost perfect on the first try. No math involved. It's all trial and error just like adjust the ride height on spring coilovers.

I'm running 1/4" lines.

"Spring rate" is directly correlated to ride height, correct?

I know they are progressive, which is good, but there a few more variables involved...

Good question. I don't know how you measure "spring rate" with bags. To my knowledge, you can't choose the "spring rate"....you pretty much get-what-you-get with the mainstream brands (Air Force, K-Sport, Airrex, etc), so you rely solely on your damping adjustments to control your ride quality.

Yeah, the Zaetech Touchbox is a neat unit since you can do a lot of customizing with it. I also like how you can sync it with the Digigauge and show the pressure readings of all bags and the tank in the app.
