Question Cross-post Any recent comments on Pirelli PZero Nero M/S or Kumho Ecsta ASX

Thought I would cross-post since I have had no feedabck in the Tire forum.

Just wondering what recent experiences members have had with these tires. I have seen a bit on the PZeros, but nothing really on the ASX's?

Do the PZeros really still flat spot a little? What other comments good/bad do people have on either of these tires?

My local Discount Tire recommends the Kumho ASX's and they are quite a bit cheaper than the PZeros. Is it worth the gamble?

Thanks,

Stu E.

P.S. No problems going with 245/45's with the stock 17's?

I've got the PZeros, 245/45-17 on the stock rims and love them. Quiet, high treadwear and the handle great wet or dry. Read the reviews and ratings at Tire Rack and compare the two. The dealer probably makes a larger profit on the Korean made Kumho's.

Consumer Reports put hte Kumho's in very last place. The PZeros were mid pack. I went with the #1 pick, Goodyear F1's

Any flat spotting with the PZeros?

Some have mentioned flatspotting with the Zeros. Has anyone experienced this lately? I am really trying to get away from this problem.

How about the Falken 512's?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Stu E.

Yes, there is some flatspotting with the P-Zero Nero M+S. I get it if the car has been sitting over a day and it clears within a mile. It's not obnoxious, but it is noticeable. This isn't an uncommon trait for high performance tires. I wanted an all season tire that performed as well as a summer tire - a pretty tough request. I'm extremely happy with their performance.

Thanks for the information

To make the choice even more difficult, I have thrown the Falken ST-115's into the mix. I have heard nothing but great things about the perfomance and quietness of these tires.

Thanks again and anymore comments welcomed!

I would also like to know about the tires you mentioned. Hear good things about the P-Zero Nero M+S, but people say they still flatspot. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is one tire that doesn't flatspot according to Tirerack it has a single polyamide cap instead of nylon. But the tire is pretty expensive, and despite better handing is suppose to be noiser than stock... Read good reviews on the new Kuhmo ASX on Tirerack, good things on here about the Falken 512's...the ST-115's are suppose to quiet but I assume more performance-oriented than the 512's? But I still like you don't know about flatspotting with these... Some other tires I have read good things about are the new Yokohama Avid H4s, 500 treadwear, it is h-rated though but reviews say handling is suppose to be good. The Toyo Proxes4 is another new tire that gets good reviews, suppose to be great handling, grip and quiet.
Then again no clue on flatspotting! I would think it would be some option other than Michelin to solve the flatspotting though!

I got rid of my EL42s afer about 1000 miles and replaced them with Toyo Proxes 4. The Toyo's are great.

Have you had any flatspotting with the Toyo Proxes 4? Don't know how long you have had them and considering now it's warmer, you may not can tell.
I know on my LS-Z's I can feel it in mornings still when it's in the 60's outside.
.... Are they as quiet as your EL42's, smooth-riding? My EL4 2's and LS-Z's are fairly quiet, and would like a tire just as quiet and not anymore firm-riding than my Z-rated LS-Z's(which seem a little more firmer than the EL42's). The price is a lot less compared to the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S also. They offer a 500 mile/45 day ride offer as well. Don't know how the stores would handle tire returns, I assume you may have to pay for remounting/balancing your old tires or other tires?
... Not knowing if a tire may flatspot, I guess I would have to wait to fall/winter and try a tire with a ride guarantee, so I could return them if they flatspot!

Toyo Proxes 4

I've put about 500 miles on the Toyo Proxes 4. I think the grip is far better than the EL42s. Where the EL42s would squeal and skip from low speeds when I really hit the gas, the Toyos just grip and go. I didn't have any flatspotting with my EL42s, but I felt the overall grip was insufficient for the kind of power that is delivered to the driving wheels. Also, I find the Toyos have an outer handling limit that is far greater than the EL42. The Toyos have been great in the rain as well. As far as the quietness, the EL42s were a bit more quite and rode a little softer. As far as Michelins and Pirelli, I think they are good tires (I was considering the Pirelli Pzero Nero), but I think that you are paying a premium for the name. Toyo has been rated #1 in tires for like 7 years by a leading tire magazine.

Ultimately, its up to you to decide whatyou want, but I hope this helps a bit.

just got some 245/40R18 ASX's for mine. Best value for ride, price, and traction. Was gonna get the Michelin Pilot Sports but not worth the difference for the price. Had Yokohama AVS ES100's, but those tires are crap.

I had the Kuhmo ASX's on my last car for about 20k, and they were great tires. When I traded in the car for the TL they still had plenty of tread left, and they were quiet. I'll get them for the TL once the stockers are worn out.

I suggest you arrange with the dealer to upgrade the stock EL42s with the tires you want. Then you can drive out without dealer with issues a lot of folks have complained about on the stock tires.

I don't have EL42's. 05 6 speed/ Navi came with Mich's. Good idea though!
