18s or 19s help

OK here's the deal I'm in the market for new rims. I kinda wanna get 19" but I don't know if its gonna affect ride quality. I really don't want to have to worry about any kind of rubbing, plus i live in the north east so i need some thing i can ride with year round. I wanna go for a clean look . I really like the the five spokes, I wish they made the stock rims in 18s ,really like them. Any advise on look and size would be greatly appreciated....Thanks

Get 19's you wont have to worry much about rubbing if your not lowered "ALOT" and you get conservative widths and offsets.

Go with 19x8.5 all around with an +30 - 35mm offset with 235/35/19 tires. You should be fine..

If the roads out east are anything like around here (midwest), i'd say stick with an 18"...especially if you're not swappig them out during the winter months. just my $.02.

Cool cool. I'm thinking of getting the a spec suspension, do you guys think that my best bet is sticking to 18s with the a spec suspension?

I think the aspec would be better for 19" wheels setup. I would fill the gap better. It also depends what kind of wheels you get to though cause the design of the wheel can a make a difference on appearance.

I just got a set of 18x8.5 Gunmetal A-Specs and they are awesome! The ride quality is just as smooth as the ride with the stock wheels and it still makes the car stand out compared to other stock TL's.

Get 19" FOR SURE, then about a 1-1.5" drop F&R.

19s look best, 18s look good/perform good, 17s perform best

as far as ride quality, 17s are the best, 19s will be harsher

So it all comes down to what you want

For looks the 19" are much better visually. The ride is a lot harsher, but not horrible. If you drive hard, I would get 18".
I'm at the point in my life where I enjoy driving at a nice peaceful pace, so the 19" don't bother me & they don't rub at all.

i have the 18" a-specs in ebony finish. i pretty much love them. and while i do wish they were 19's (for looks) sometimes, when i hit a big-ass bump or hole in the shitty chicagoland roads, i am glad i have 18's and didnt just dent my rim. overall i think functionality should win out. there's my opinion.

U already know the answer to your own question otherwise you wouldn't be asking - You're driving the same roads as I am and you know 19s won't last with these horrible NJ/NY roads especially if you're not switching them out during the winter. 19s maybe would last a little if u drove extra careful only in the summer. 18s are our only real option here - I'm a die-hard rim fanatic and I've been running on the stockies since brand new rather than throw $$ down the drain with these roads.... JMHO.....

I'm Torn in this decision too, live in North Jersey too, 17s were scratched when i bought her so new rims are a MUST and i much rather upgrade than buy some more stocks..

If U get Tein SS coilovers U can adjust damping. This HARSH thing is not true with the correct set-up.

I have Tein SS lowered about 1.7" F&R with the damping set half way with 19x8.5" Axis Hiro wheels and 245/35/19" Yoko S-Drive tires and my car rides GREAT. NOT HARSH AT ALL. I put my OEM wheels/tires on last week and I could barely feel a diff in ride quality unless I hit a HUGE bump. The main diff was WAY BETTER handling with my 19" S-Drives.

I installed just Eibach Pro springs with 17# 18x8" Volk RE-30's and 245/40/18" Potenza RE050A on my previous 07 TL Type-S and IMO it rode like SHIT. VERY HARSH.

Tires have as much to do with ride quality as srpings/shocks and size of rim. The key is to get them to perform as one...I'm very happy with my set up. But I went through the same dilemma as you with wheel size....here's the thread:
