XLR8 exhaust issue.

On my type S i have the XLR8 resonated quad exhaust. a few weeks ago i noticed that my car was sounding more and more like a civic.. from the sounds of it the driver side muffler seems to have some sort of rattle. has any one else encountered and issue like this? i have contacted xlr8 and they weren't to helpful or reasonable which is kind of disappointing

get down and dirty and find whats making it sound different.
maybe an exhaust leak.

there's no other way to look for something wrong than looking for something wrong!

get to it!!

when we mod or deviate away from factory; the car becomes less reliable.

either you are going to have to find out why its making a different noise or pay to have a shop look.

its definatly the muffler. i removed it and the horrible civic sound went away. and you can clearly hear there is a loose component inside of it. trust me i have fixed every squeak and rattle in this car. there has been no noises untill this muffler issue

not to bad mouth XLR8 but if I were in your shoes, i'd just replace the muffler.

although you might lose the xlr8 sound....it's better than having an awful sounding car

Please send us an email to Sales@ExceleratePerformance.com with a description of your issue and your vehicle information and contact info. I'm sure we can come to a solution. We might not be able to outright replace the exhaust or muffler but we might be able to work on pricing with you. We do sell the mufflers separately.

i did contact josh ... 400 for one muffler is what i was quoted. in my opinion that is steep. and with an exhaust thats really only been ran for a year the fact that there is an issue kinda sucks

Well I think we should clarify here. What is your name? If this is a recent email you've purchased the exhaust secondhand, which means it's much older than a year, and it's also not a qualifying product for warranty replacement since warranties are only for the original purchaser.

Sucks you're having the problem, but if you bought the exhaust used then you can't really expect them to replace your muffler for free or even at a discount.

I had a buddy who had a problem with his exhaust (bought his new) and they replaced his muffler right away without any hassles.

$400 for one exhaust is a steal since it's usually +$1000 for the kit. I think you might have a buyer, XLR8! lol

the system was purchesed from a guy locally. it was installed. and the car came out of the garage twice. i bought it off of him and ran it on my car. techincally the exhaust is 2 years old. but been on my car for a year straight. only reason i didnt buy from xlr8 was because it was offered to me, it was local, and i had cash at the time. otherwise i would of purchased from josh. still paid damn near what it costs brand new. unfourtinally i don't know what happened to the original guy that bought it. im not asking for a free exhaust. but i honesly feel that 400 for a single muffler is high.... or if there is a way to fix this

i had the same issue and the only solution was to replace the muffler. once it was replaced the noise was gone. i was close enough to my warranty period that xlr8 worked with me on getting it replaced.

just a heads up it takes about a month to get the muffler built, at least that's what it took for me.

it is rare to see xlr8 muffler issues but things like this do happen. i feel your pain but xlr8 usually has great customer service. i'm just hoping my other muffler doesn't go out haha, but if it does i would most likely put up the money because i expect to have this car for many more years and i love the xlr8 exhaust sound

The muffler with the noise is no good, so slice open the muffler and correct the problem, then weld it up.

Bite your tongue!! If then other muffler goes out I'm not gonna be a happy person. This is literally the best sounding exhaust especially mated with rv6 PCD's. But currently I've never herd anything worse.. I'm taking it to a local fan shop having him hack it open and praying it can be fixed.! If not I guess I have to bend over and buy a single muffler... Or order rv6 td

It can be fixed, you can always remove the baffles/tubing.

If it makes you feel better, I was in your situation at one point in time.

just curious why you would go this route, which costs about 1500? at the worst case you could nearly buy 4 sets of xlr8 mufflers for that price and there's now way you should go through that many during the life of your car haha.

when the fab work is done, could you provide cost and impact to sound once it's done?

Yes Id like an update as well. Mine has been making noise for some time and yesterday it decided to 100% fail on me. I can hit the muffler with my hand and it has lots of loose pieces inside. Sounds like complete shit, and the better part is XLR8 does not want to fix mine because the warranty period is 3 months out. After speaking with Bruce, he is aware that this has happened on about 10 occasions and actually has a NEW set of updated mufflers that are not completely polished, and have a lip on the outer edges. They look completely different. It is actually for sale in the Black Market because the owner is not happy with his XLR8 exhaust anymore. Its pretty shitty that the first words that come out of our forum sponsors mouth is, "its out of warranty, have fun with a $400 purchase." As you can tell im pretty ticked off at my situation. XLR8 can make it right over 3 months being out of warranty, or I will no longer purchase, nor advise anyone to purchase parts from them plain and simple. Alot of people are having issues with warranty items that are even under warranty. This is not the kind of customer service we expect. Looks like I will be calling billy boat directly to have my problem solved as many others have told me to do. Hope you get your issue fixed bud.

Contacted Billy Boat to see what they say. By the time the exhaust was actually made, shipped, and installed on my car it was less than two years. Hopefully I can get this issue resolved and mufflers warrantied.

Not to hijack this thread on XLR8 quads, but I have the ATLP V2 Quads installed on my 06 TL not too long ago (2 months) brand new, and after a long drive with car off and getting out of the car, if I close the door I can definitely hear a metal rattling sound coming from under my car. The rattling sounds like it is coming from the mufflers. If I lightly kick the muffler, I can hear a rattle, but this only sounds after its warmed up and car has been driven for a bit.

Have anyone else heard this with ATLP V2 quads before? Its a little annoying hearing it every time I close the door after driving.

I have this issue currently with the xlr8 exhaust. I plan on going under the car in a few weeks to check it out. I think it's a heat shield. You can prob hear it at idle too if you get out of your car. Makes our car sound cheap

XLR8 told me $275 to send my muffler in for a rebuild, or $350 to buy a new one... 3 Months out of warranty. What a shame. They've lost my business. Billy Boat wont email me back. As far as im concerned, that's a bridge burned. Really just want my to sell this exhaust after no help from either. Not even a split the difference, or anything. Just, oh, your out... too bad for you. Ive heard a lot of other stories with similar issues with xlr8. xlr8 says they don't have issues. Hell I can find a lot online and post it here, but its not worth my time. They are obviously not willing to work with us.

I am currently going through this again. Had a mixup with the new muffler I purchased and am working it out with XLR8.

Updates to follow.

Anybody just open it up and have it re-welded (Yup, Mine too) Driver side. Is the baffle replacable?
