Ahhhh.. Just got my windshield replaced, bought AP unbranded glass,
picked it up from the shop at closing, got home and noticed this...

I called, they said they will fix it in 2 days.
but that its ok for me to drive.
what do you all think?
good advice or bad advice?
and what did they screw up?

looks like they either messed up the install completely OR they f-d up your drip molding. what does the other side look like? i'd have to look at mine a bit closer to see what's missing....brb.

looks like you are missing a piece of weather stripping of some sort on that side (the drip molding appears to be ok). your windshield sits with a "sunk" in look creating a gap (which obviously should not be there). i wouldn't drive it in the rain in case of leaks. i'd have the installer fix that ASAP. i personally would not necessarily feel safe driving around with my windshield like that.

I would bring it right back and have them fix it immediately. Them telling you 2 days is BS, safe or not.

What if it rains? What if the whole windshield falls in on you? That is a major fuck up on their part. No way you should have to wait 2 days to fix that. Bring it to them immediately and make th em fix it now.

If they can't fix it now, cover it to keep moisture out.

that loos like one of the "clips" to keep the molding down, your windshield should be fine, they just didnt put the molding back on correctly.

the top windshield moldling "sinks" in if you look at the pic. it should sit flat, not sink. something is missing on his. the gap on my windshield is NOT that big and just under the drip molding there is a rubber piece that should be there and fill that gap to almost lift the glass a little to meet the drip molding.

his drop molding is flush with the A pillar as it's suppose to be. i wouldn't drive it like that.

i dont understand how a window shop releases a vehicle in that state. It's like leaving the dentist's office with teeth missing. Do they not look over their work?

According to what I'm seeing on page 20-134 of the OEM shop manual, they've damaged/stripped off that part of the complete roof channel. That used to be an integral part that filled the gap between the roof channel and the window. To remove the roof channel, you need to pry between that rubber seal down into those blue clips. My guess is they damaged it and then sliced it off or something to that effect.

It's #13 73153-SEP-A01 MOLDING, R. DRIP SIDE USA 1 $110.23 $81.35

There is no specific trim "around" the windsheild. Only a trim piece across the top, the roof molding down the sides, and the cowl pieces across the bottom. The window is actually weather-sealed with a thick bead of glue when it's dropped into place.

If you look closely at the crossection on the right, you can see that the seal pressing against the window is an integral part of the roof molding trim (rain gutter). It's not a separate piece. In that cross section drawing, a 1mm thick blade is being inserted between the window and that seal to release the clips, so it looks a little confusing at 1st (at least it did to me).

That helps alot EG94.
Answered my questions perfectly.
Thanks to the rest of you aswell.
I dont know how the shop let this happen and let me go home with my car like this.
I know next time I am going to inspect the car thoroughly.
I go on sat for the repairs.
Where could I get a copy of the manual?
Is it only digital or is there a physical one?

If you want a real copy, buy one from helminc.com. They print the OEM shop manual. Be aware they cost $55-$70.

If you want to know where to download a 2004 manual in pdf form, check your pm's.

final result

Turns out the trim was folded under itself.
Took a min to fix. Still.. Makes no sense to send it out not completed.
I talked with there management.
I expanded my thoughts on what there quality standards look like to a customer and what i expect from my staff.
