Smile window wont go up

i have an 05 TL and this morning i lowered my front passenger window and heard a loud pop. i tried to raise it and it was stuck but the motor was still working. i peeked in with a flash light and saw that the window track and cable completely broke and is jamming the glass. This shouldn't have happened on a 5 year old car but it did. I am out of warranty so i need advice. Should i take too dealer or let my mechanic whom i trust to work on it? How much will this set me back? Any comments or feedback would be highly appreciated.

The parts price range greatly from what I have seen on the internet. I had a mobile mechanic that only does windows and doors fix my electric windows issues. Taking the window trim off without busting stuff can be a challenge. I think the site I got the best price on the car parts was CarPartsWholesale They sell the whole unit, parts of the unit and have different manufacturers. I went with the cheaper unit for my toyota camry and it worked for years...still working.

The window mechanic guy told me you should clean the edge of the windows monthly and squirt silicon (get the can with the skinny tube)down the slides same frequency to reduce the drag/avoid stuck broken window parts.

I would avoid the dealership if you have mechanic you can trust...better yet if you find a mobile mech who only does windows/door hardware. unless you want to try yourself.

Good luck

Its really not that hard of a repair to make. Stay away from the stealership and for some reason trusted repair shops still want to charge an arm and a leg for the repair. You should be able to get the parts for under $160 or so and do it yourself.
