Window wet inside with moleskins
Window wet inside with moleskins
I had the car tinted with moleskins on all the windows. Now when the windows are rolled down the water that is on the outside of the windows gets pushed to the top of the window and when the top edge lowers below the door the water wicks onto the moleskins and wets the inside of thewindows they are rolled back up. I don't believe this happened before the tinting. Has any else had this occur?
Don't know where you live. But if it is in New England, with the none stop down pour over the last week, this maybe just an anomaly. Although mine have been dry, I was able to avoid most of the wet stuff.
You know what, I just noticed it this morning. Somehow water got on the inside of the window. It rained on Saturday and Sunday here in southern cali. This morning when I rolled my windows down and rolled them up, there were water streaks all over the inside of the window, both of the front side windows.

This happens to me as well. Every time it's raining hard and you open the door to get in and out of your car water will land on the top portion of the door panel and saturate the mole skins.
im taking it in to the acura dealer here in so cal this thursday. let me see what they have to say about it. I bet you they gonna blame it on the tint job and won't fix it. I call the tint place and they told me it the factory car that has the problem. I gonna get the run around treatment i bet you.
well see what happens , ill keep you guys posted.
is it a must to have the door panel remove before you install mole skin? the place i went to said they didnt remove any door panel. is that possible?
thanks

You will definitely get the runaround. Acura fucked up the design of the window trim by eliminating the factory moleskin that has been on pretty much every single car in the world. This results in scratches to the tint over time.
The fix is of course to apply moleskin to the window trim. BUT, the window trim was not designed to work properly w/ the added thickness of the aftermarket moleskin so you end up with issues like this.
Whose fault is it? Technically, not Acura's fault b/c ALL window tint and moleskin is non-OEM aftermarket equipment.
But, who cares about technicalities when you buy a $30K+ car?
Bottomline is, Acura should not have cheapened out by eliminating the moleskin that has been on 99% of all the other cars on the market today.

You need to use the correct mole skin on the doors. If the tint show is cheep and buys inexpensive mole skin this will happen.
Yes you can install the mole skin without removing the doors panels. I have both sets of instructions in the kit I sell.

i find it funny ,i tinting in high school and had tinted cars for 16 years, never needed any type of moleskin
if you keep a clean car you will never have a problem
tint is on the inside and if you have scratches that means you get alot of dust and dirt inside your car,
easy fix is just keep a clean car

There was a thread on this not too long ago. I didnt install moleskin and have this happen to me every now and then when it rains. A few others i think were in the same spot. I don't think it has anything to do with the moleskin.
water on inside of window
I Have The Same Problem With Water Getting On The Inside Of My Window When It Rains. Took It Too Acura 2 Or Three Times And They Replaced The Rubber Seal Around The Outside Of The Car Twice And Still Have The Problem On My Drivers Side Window. Dont Know What Too Do. I Think Its A Definite Design Flaw. Only My Drivers Side Window Has This Issue. Yes Had My Windows Tinted And The Moleskin Put In But That Cant Be The Problem. My Windows Were Tinted After Market But By The Same People Who Acura Dealerships Send There Cars To Too Tint The Windows When You Order If From The Factory That Way.

I have tint without moleskin and no problems with scratches or water getting inside. Water does get inside your door, which is normal. But should drain out the weep holes at the bottom. Is the moleskin on the outside or inside part of the window sill? I think they should only be on the inside.
The moleskin is applied to the inside wipers that come in contact with the tint itself.
Mine had become wet as well, and eventually peeled off the wipers gumming up my tint. I cleaned of the wipers with denatured alcohol prior to install, so they were free of oils etc.
The tint was cleaned easily after the moleskin rolled up on itself. I now have to reapply the moleskin, but this time I will use contact cement as well.
