Window Tint - Voids Warranty?

The service manager at my dealership said that since my windows are tinted I voided all potential warranty claims on my windows if something goes wrong (he mentioned window regulators and a bunch of other things).

Is the service manager just being an ass?

Got to watch out on that tint.... you know it weighs a ton. Sounds like a goofball. Ask him if you touch the navi screen and leave fingerprints, will it turn into an etch-a-sketch?

Hmmm.

I specifically asked my dealership about tints (since I'm on a lease). They said NO Problem, as long as they are not beyond the legal tint limit.

No. Don't misunderstand my post.

Due to the lease, the car must be in "legal" operating condition (either during the lease period or at the time of return). Technically, tints too dark would make the car illegal in our state and therefore not allowed under the lease terms.

thanks for the replies, i thought he was a bit out of line saying that about the tint... i mean how does a piece of film on a window effect a window regulator or other electronic functions of the window???

in addition, he scolded me about using CD-R's in the CD player... said I would be responsible for any warranty claims if one of those CD's got stuck

You have encountered a true

About the CD-R, i would just suggest that you do not use any labels on them as they can come unglued and stick internally in the radio.

This is weird. Many dealerships tint the windows for you. I am from Phoenix, and you are nuts to take a car without tint. In fact, most of the time, you do not have a choice here. They already do it for you and sell it to you along with some paint protection package like zeetak or something. Your service manager is Crazy!!! Go somewhere else.

Well at my dealership there are alot of people complaining about windows squealing when they have window tint on their windows, also on some cars the tint will get scratched by the windows weather stripping, when the tint can cause the window to get hung up and it also adds some thickness. But i have never heard of it voiding the warranty on the windows regulators there is a service news bulletin on what is the recommended way to have your windows tinted!

the only way that tint would screw up your warranty is if it is placed into the channels on either side of the window causing the regulators to work hrder to roll up and down the windows, but if you get it done at a good tinting place you wont have to worry about that, i had to go to two differant acura dealerships when i brought my car from florida to virginia the first one said that acura wouldn't cover the window regulators (btw had to get both fronts replace at same time, one was extremely slow, like that when i got the car and the other kept acting like something was in its way, rolling itself back down), then i went to the other one and they said no problem. it all depends on the dealership, i will let you figure out which one i am still using.

From my experience, window tinting will only void the warranty on the weather stripping at the base of the windows as well as any scratches on the glass. They think tinters all fold back the weather stripping to get under it, which apparently breaks it and allows dirt inside the door, scratching the windows. Guess it depends on the dealer as to variations of warranty coverage. (Theres a mention in the service bulletin about it, July 07, http://www.in.honda.com/Rjanisis/pubs/SN/B070700.PDF)
