Window creak

just have a little issue with my 07 tl-s. when i close my drivers window, ONLY when it reaches all the way up it will make a CREAK sound. it operates completely normal other than that. i can actually close my window by holding the button all the way, and if i let go right when it reaches the end, it wont creak. however if i hold it any longer, it will creak. what might this be? lack of lubrication in the window regulator?

im gonna remove my window regulator this weekend and lube everything up and see if it helps. regulator seems to work perfectly fine so i dont want to waste money on a new one if my current one just needs to be lubed.

I have tried removing the whole window and window regulator from the door and lubed every part. I tried the window regulator when it was off the car and it doesnt make any noises so i know thats fine. So what can my problem be? The problem is much worse in warm weather than in cold. Now that winter has ended and spring and summer are coming up, the creaks only have gotten worse. What can my problem be? Help!

I have the exact same problem as you with my Base TL I always thought it was the seal that rubs against the window on the inside maybe some shin etsu grease might fix it. Have not tried it yet but will soon.

Wipe down the entire rubber channel and all other rubber seals. LMK if it helps.

EDIT: DOH! I just saw that you already found that thread. Sorry!

Mine did it too and I solved it .... its not in the door but in the rubber and plastic trim on the front part of the window channel about 6" up from the mirror.

Pull the trim/rubber/plastic away and spray it with silicone lube ..

I thought in post #4 you determined its not the regulators?

Roll your window all the way up then shut the door and go out and lift slightly on the dr. side mirror. See if you get noise.

Also drive around and just barely crack the window .. does the noise go away? But comes back when the window is completly up?

Also notice when you shut the window as it gets to the top it pulls the window frame in. The stressing of the frame pulling in on the plastic/rubber trim is causing the squeak.

basically, the noise only happens when the window gets "pulled in". i can actually replicate the noise by pushing on the window from the outside if it were shut.

im just out of ideas now so it has to be the regulators

Did you try what I posted? It takes a bit of fiddling to get the right area with the lube ... but if you feel you must spend the $$ go for it.

i've taken off the door panel and confirmed the creak is coming from around the window regulator area, i cant be more specific because the sound kinda echos in the door and visibility is limited. one time i tried spraying some silicone lube in random areas with the window rolled down, and it actually stopped the creak for like 1-2 days then it came right back.

So looks like it was the regulator?! Maybe over time certain parts wear out a little and you get the creak. What about using rubber washers on the bolts that hold the regulator to the car. Would that maybe dampen the creeking? Or inserting rubber in the window track or other places to dampen the noise. I know you have probably exhausted ideas, just thought I would try and help.

the rubber washers wouldnt be a bad idea if the creaking was from the metal frame, but I think it might be from within the motor. I cannot say for sure though, I've kinda gotten used to it, but it does still bother me so I'll tinker with it again one day when I'm more free

Im surprised there isnt more info on this issue because I think this happens to a good amount of TL's?

I do wonder if its an auto window issue, since it only happens to the front windows. At the last second, the regulator gives an extra tug which causes the creak, the rears dont do this at all. I'll try the auto window reset procedure tomorrow, which I found to be this:

1) Turn the ignition switch ON (II)
2) Move the window all the way down by using the power window DOWN switch.
3) Open the driver's door.
NOTES: Steps 4-7 must be done within 5 seconds of each other.
4) Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5) Push and hold the power window DOWN switch.
6) Turn the ignition switch ON (II)
7) Release the power window DOWN switch.
8) Repeat step 4-7 three more times.
9) Wait 1 second.
10) Confirm that AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If they work, go back to step 1.
11) Move the window all the way down by using the power window DOWN switch.
12) Pull up and hold the window UP switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for 1 second.
13) Confirm that the power window control unit is reset by using the power window AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN function.

If the power window still doesn't work in AUTO, repeat procedure several times, paying close attention to the 5 second time limit between steps.

I double checked mine and my driver side does it almost every time whereas my passenger side doesnt do it all all. Could be because the passenger side window isnt used as much. I think most people just dont care or even notice it that much. Can you operate the window without the door panel on and see if it still does it? Its got to be rubbing or pushing on something. Good luck with searching and update us if you find anything.

so I did a bit of testing today, and I have determined the cause is due to the auto up function. What it does is that it pulls the window up until it can't anymore, then it releases the tension, which is when the creak happens. How I tested this was that I did the auto window reset procedure from the above 2 posts, and when there wasn't an auto function, the window never released tension, thereby no resulting creak. I did a relearn procedure after, and so far the creak seems to be gone, but I'm not certain how long this will last. During the middle of my testing, I used the motor excessively and reached a point of overheating the motor that it stopped responding. I gave it a cool down period and the window started working again, but I didnt want to keep pushing the motor excessively, so I'll continue my testing another day.

The reason that I think my new regulators worked without creaks for awhile is that the auto function had to be relearned after installing, and maybe thats why it didnt creak.
